Re: Recently Watched Movies
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Not bad! However, they have never really made this newer cast connect with fans. They also tampered with the timeline with the "Days of Future Past" movie so that they could retell this story in a new way. A major character died that shouldn't have. Also, not having the Cyclops/JeanGray/Wolverine love triangle felt off.
While I liked the film, they should have let the last Wolverine movie tuck this series away before Disney/Marvel reboots this in about 5 years.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
Almost forgot to mention The Meg. Watched it with the wife, we were pleasantly surprised. Much better than we both expected

I read an article online that the original director for X-Men First-Class had a three movie story arc that ended with Days of Future Past. The studio decided to axe the second movie and make the third the second. I love the first two, but didn't care that much of Apocalypse. This makes me understand why. I have no interest in Dark Phoenix.
Saw Shazam today. Not bad. especially for $3.50.

Yesterday, I re-watched
Apparently I enjoyed it more than the critics and most of the fans.
It's kinda of an Endgame of sorts to the X-Men franchise.

Only in the fact that it ends this round of X-Men movies. This new film didn't have the buildup of Endgame. It definitely doesn't have the great character development that we've had with the Avengers movies. While it was a decent watch, it feels tired. This series should have stopped with the last Wolverine movie.
I will be interested to see what Marvel does with these characters now that they have the rights to these characters. When Disney and 20th Century Fox merged, they regained the movie rights. I figure it will take them 5 years to do it, but be prepared for a total revamp of these characters. If they do it well, I am in. If not, then I will have enjoyed what they have done thus far.
I also expect, and hope we get a great team up this time, a rebooted Fantastic Four series. The last attempt at rebooting was a royal stink-fest with characters with no emotion. I left wondering why I bothered watching the whole thing.
Re: Recently Watched Movies
In the theater yesterday:
MIB: International It was okay. There wasn't a lot of laughing going on and the room was almost full due to it being $5.50 Tuesday. The best jokes were in the trailer, and I felt I had seen most of the gags before. This, to me, was just another sequel just to make another buck or two off the franchise while being PC and building on an empowered woman main character. I don't have problems with empowered women leads. I just don't like it how almost every movie now has one. It isn't a crime to have a man as the main character some, too.
At home on Netflix:
Murder Mystery This film features Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston. For a rom-com, it was quite fun! With Adam being much older, the more immature style and crassness of most of his early films isn't here. Oh, there is some as it is A)Adam Sandler and B)made for Netflix. But, overall, the story was fun if not cliched, and there were a ton of funny moments. Even my wife liked it, and she doesn't enjoy his movies at all unless they have Drew Barrymore in them. (Which is great, because I get to watch Drew Barrymore!)

Re: Recently Watched Movies
My wife and I got Amazon Prime recently, and I watched the movie Hereditary last night.
Very very good. I really enjoyed it.
I remember seeing previews/reviews when it came out, "scariest movie since The Exorcist" or something like that.... No. Not scary at all, IMO..... but its astronomical as far as "creepy" goes. Absolutely NO jump scares.
I love horror, but I'm particular about some things. This movie was great because no boobs/nudity. Very little profanity, there wasn't much. Not really any murder? Kind of but not really? There is some gore in the movie, but it certainly wasn't a senseless gorefest - it was completely applicable to the story.
The best part, and I've only seen a few movies do this. (The Shining would probably be the most popular example. A better example IMO is the movie The Innkeepers.) It starts out pretty normal. Then the creepy just seeps in, becoming more and more intense as the movie plays out. The last 20 minutes of the film crescendos into this "!?!?!?!? What the...!!!!!!!" that I didn't see coming at all.
I'd HIGHLY recommend this one if you like fairly clean, well built horror.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
Finally watched Pacific Rim: Uprising
I've owned the digital copy of it for a while now, but I kept holding off because everyone I know said it sucked.
My opinion? I liked it. It's certainly not perfect, but it was fairly fun. I certainly liked the casting in this one more than the first one. I also liked that the battles happened during the daytime so you could see it better.
I did find it funny when the Gipsy Danger jaeger was grabbing buildings and throwing them down on the monster in Tokyo. I mean, the city was not evacuated, as we just saw people running in the streets as the monsters arrived, so there were probably hundreds of people in those large city buildings..lol

I finally watched Hacksaw Ridge, been meaning to do so for some time now. Considering the rating on IMDB, I had high expectations. Sure, it was good, but not as good as I expected it to be.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
^I saw it in theaters when it came out and thought it was pretty good as well. And at least how it was portrayed, some of the events sure seemed pretty miraculous. I do struggle with the fact that he was Seventh Day Adventist due to some of their warped theology (added material to God's Word though the "prophet" Ellen White, works-based salvation, etc.).
I watched The Ritual last night. It was not bad, though like many horror movies, got a little silly/over-the-top at the end during the final reveal. The acting was good, script so-so (lots of bad language FYI), well done cinematography and special effects, and in parts was quite suspenseful.

Have you seen Midsommar yet? Same director and from what I've heard thus far, most folks seem to like it more than Hereditary. I haven't seen either but have heard good things about both.
