I actually enjoyed "The Case For Christ". I thought the story showed enough of Lee's quest to disprove Jesus, how his marriage was falling apart, and his lust to find peace through unbelief that didn't happen. They had a few of the more interesting pieces from the book so that you could see what kind of effect they were having on Lee. While the book was more informational, the movie took more of a human interest twist and was more transformational. I felt it was at least on par with most made for TV movies.

Last night we watched A Fistful Of Dollars (the first in the Man With No Name trilogy starring Clint Eastwood). It was really great. The plot reminded me of Miller's Crossing some. Now we need to watch For A Few Dollars More...

While not a movie, I have been watching The Haunting Of Hill House. It's a pretty good suspenseful tv show on Netflix.

Bad Times at the El Royale
I can't reco it.
But Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth and Dakota Johnson were great as usual.

^Oh man I really want to see that one. You didn't like it? Why not? Did you like The Cabin In The Woods?

Re: Recently Watched Movies
It was an anticipated movie, just look at the star power. Yet it did not do well at the box office. Fortunately it was not a big budget flick. Amazingly high score at IMDB. I'm sure it would have been a bigger dud without the star power.Kerrick wrote:^Oh man I really want to see that one. You didn't like it? Why not? Did you like The Cabin In The Woods?

It was different. But I just didn't care for the story line, probably because I am not a fan of the horror genre. Cabin in the Woods? Hmmm...."Horror, comedy" maybe that is something more worthy of my time. LOL, to me, all horrors are comedies

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I really loved The Cabin In The Woods which is written/directed by the same guy. Bad Times looks to have some similar themes and "feel" to The Cabin as well. If you had seen The Cabin, it'd be a good point of comparison, that's why I asked.
If you're not a horror fan, you may not appreciate The Cabin so much because it references many horror films and tropes in a self-aware manner which was quite clever, though being familiar with the "classics" will definitely add to the experience. However, I recommend NOT watching the trailer or reading anything about it. It'll be much more enjoyable if you go in to it knowing nothing about it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Prospect this afternoon! My cousin in-law directed it so y'all should go see it for that reason alone haha, though also to support the indie scene - and because it's supposedly a really great movie regardless. It's been getting consistently very positive reviews. Check it out!

Took the family out to see the 30th anniversary showing of "Die Hard" in the theaters. Had a good time.
Re: Recently Watched Movies
^Classic!
Prospect was really quite good! Something I particularly appreciated about it was how the plot didn't seem contrived or forced - and thus the characters demoted to plot devices. Instead, the progression of the story seemed driven by decisions made by the characters: decisions that may not always be completely rational, but consistent with who they are. The acting was very solid and a special kudos to the set designer who did some amazing work. Overall I definitely recommend it!

Mulan, last week.
I loved it when I was a child. Now I'm more aware of the "feminist" motives in it. But it still is fun how all the recognition as a warrior isn't enough for Mulan and she only starts to get happy when a man wants her

Overlord is opening at the local budget theater. ($3 to see movies once leave the main theaters; if you can wait a few weeks, it's definitely worth it!) It's a nazi zombie horror flick that looks like a lot of fun. Anyone seen it? I'm considering going...

I'm only recently starting to realize how good Sean Connery actually was as Bond. The current Bond actor is really bad.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
^Well, the new James Bond is all about being sullen, serious, dark, and brooding - which makes for a pretty dull character IMO. Plus, supposedly the actor really hates playing Bond so maybe he's just calling it in anyways.
We watched Train To Busan the other night. Wow, what a great movie. It's not a particularly "light" movie though so don't expect a super upbeat ending... But I do recommend it.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I agree that Connery is best but I do enjoy Craig, he is a good modern interpretation of Bond, I think the character has to evolve with whoever is playing him much as Moore adapted the character to his styleAndreas89 wrote:Dr. No
