And now that view is canon.Black Rider wrote:Agreed. It's a good album but not exceptional.

Weapons is way better, for sure. But the s/t is still amazing with songs like Deliverance, If You Will, No Love, and The Call.Pethead wrote:Here’s a hot take:
D’s debut is overrated. Super important for Christian thrash? Absolutely! Good album? Absolutely! But Weapons was a HUGE leap forward in the songwriting department.

I love the first album. But the drumming in not as tight as Weapons (especially the kick drums). And as already pointed out… the songwriting is not quite as good as Weapons either.

No argument there!
I love when the guitar crunch on Victory comes out of the starting gate like a rampaging bull. Thanks to Jimmy’s Mesa Boogie amp and thick Gibson tone.
That said… Weapons has a slightly more “dialed-in” crunch.

IGWT<99% of all albums ever released. Stryper is the most overrated band in Christian music, to an inexplicable degree. It's like they imprinted on every baby Christian's ears like the first animal a baby bird sees -- for no reason other than being the first.Temple of Blood wrote:IGWT > 99% of all secular and Christian metal albums ever released

Keeping this in the realm of bands that have actual singing… Tourniquet, Deliverance and Rob Rock’s solo albums are better. I could list a bunch more from bands of different sub-genres that use shouting, growling and death grunts.

I find it hilarious that the most fundamentalist Christians here, who are quick to condemn musicians to hell for any number of other infractions against orthodoxy, give their pet band a free pass. The inconsistency is truly astounding.
