They were trying to be glam metal, which does look kind of trans... but that wasn't really the point.

Do you even know what trans is? I'm not excited about the look but it was the style of the day.

The glam metal drag queen aesthetic was cringe as all heck, but at least at the end of the day they knew they were men. And I don’t see anybody suggesting anyone is going to hell for anything other than rejecting Christ

I also don’t see anyone saying, “Stryper is a good band; therefore it’s cool for men to dress like women.”

The only makeup I like is the way Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons have done it. I like it for a horror/villain type of character. 

The Poison and Stryper drag look was terrible! Stryper’s Against the Law image was much better. At least they looked like guys.

I like Michael’s more gritty singing on ATL. IGWT is good, but way too slick and polished.

I think black metal’s “corpse paint” aesthetic is pretty funny tbh, considering that they think it makes them look dark and grim or whatever, when in reality it just looks like a bad KISS ripoff

I think IGWT is stronger overall, but I dig the Van Halen-isms on AtL.

Despite several genres being more fast/heavy, something about good nu-metal makes me 100 times more energetic than any other music. Especially the first four songs on Toxicity.

For the record, I like AtL. But overall, it's just not as interesting for me as the rest of Stryper's work.

If Black Metal didn't have image and posturing, it wouldn't have much.

I watched a hilarious video about Venom's early years the other day and how they were in many ways a fake band built on fake concerts /promo pictures, etc and hadn't really played many shows at all.  Once they finally got on tour to a wide audience everyone a few songs in realized they were terrible.  The entire black metal scene is based on that band.  More evidence for my "image ruins music" point I made in another thread.

My high school "criminal class" according to frequently worn T-shirt:

Metallicats were bad boys but still mostly somewhat mainstream and redeemable.  Megadeth t-shirt kids were more rebellious but had an edge of intelligence.  G'n'R guys were of low intelligence, tried to look the bad boy part, but still mostly abided by the rules.  Slayer guys were usually in trouble, weren't going to finish school, and badly behaved, but Venom kids were still the most reprobate.   The kids that wore Venom t-shirts in high school were the most degenerate kids imaginable.  They wouldn't make it past freshman year, loved all things satanic, did drugs, and went straight to juvey hall.

We didn't have any Venom fans in our school and only one guy wore a Slayer t-shirt/patch and had their posters.  When the 90s hit he cut his hair and ditched all the metal stuff.  I looked like a normie but still continued loving thrash.

I think black metal tends to take itself way too seriously, more than any other genre
