I'm not sure yet. It seems like age inevitably leads to Groove Metal for these old school Thrash bands.

I like thrash bands that add some groove into their sound, but I’m not big on straight groove metal.
Re: Sacrament News + a new band arise...
LOL I hear ya, I guess we will see what the rest of the album sounds like. The first song was really good thoughSon of Nun wrote:mothy wrote:What's wrong with groove metal

So far I’m liking the new songs! The vocals are the only thing I need to adjust to… I miss the original style with the shrieking.

Re: Sacrament News + a new band arise...
This new song is very good.
I do miss Michael Torone's older vocal style though.
But the new style fits the music they are trying to craft.
In the interview they say they don't have an album title but their ETA is to release the album in the spring (May/June).
No immediate plans to play live; they haven't even played together in a room yet, they record everything remotely.

And missing the speed! Waiting for the speed and thrash picking that never appears. Can thrash be slow tempo or is it technically no longer considered thrash if the tempo only rises to mid-tempo? Seems to be slow temp groove metal with death-ish vocals at this point I guess. Definitely different without Toy’s thrash picking and Torone’s higher screams and lower growls mixed in. I guess it boils down to working with the talent(s) you have. Still could be cool, and the message will obviously be the same…just different musically with the new band name.

True. Can you provide some examples of good slow tempo thrash for a point of reference?

Here is the latest song from Testimony Of Apocalypse (a.k.a. former members of Sacrament):
Toward the middle it has some heavy Coroner vibes.....

I like Coroner! Been a major fan since 1991. I welcome that sound with a Christian band.

I can hear Coroner style riffing even on Haunts of Violence. I wouldn’t be surprised if the guys from Sacrament are fans.

Re: Sacrament News + a new band arise...
I listened to both the old Sacrament discs last week.
If there are Coroner vibes, there aren't many, and a lot more groove than Coroner in their drumming and sound. I wouldn't be surprised if the guys were fans of Coroner though. Why would a thrash musician not find something to appreciate in Coroner's music after all?
This new band really doesn't sound like Sacrament at all, especially in the guitar style, but that is not a criticism. I like this recent song the best of the three. I agree with others that something needs to be done with that mix but I imagine that it will be before it is all finished.

I think the Corner comes in some of the tempo and even the guitar. Definitely not a copy though.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think the title track “Haunts of Violence” has the Mental Vortex vibe. The same way Tommy Baron would combine the melodic notes with the crunchy chords.
Sorry, it’s hard to describe what I’m talking about. But the Coroner song “Son of Lilith” has the same formula.

I loved the sound but thought the packaging besides the cover was very cheap. I definitely prefer this version of ToA.

New update for ToA.
