Just when I thought I had heard every possible vocal style from Luke, he busts out with a new, smooth, higher range vocal performance that sounds like nothing he's done before. Very cool. Luke, is that you at the very beginning with the smooth, George Michael-like "Ahh, ahh, ahhhhh..." vocal before the verse starts?

Haha. I actually liked the original song though. As I said earlier, Luke could sing the phone book and I'd be happy, but if he busts out with a cover of "Wake me up, before you go go..", then we may have to throw down.

Ok, so Luke did amazing job in the whole Vanishing Lessons album. Then after that I really love him in Going Going Gone and in Flowering Cadaver (the 3:14-4:03 part became my favorite Luke vocals ever - simply amazing stuff).

Now, I'm not sure if I'm crazy or what but this Last Christmas cover sounds really good and might even be his best vocal performance to date... His voice fits incredibly well to that song.

Two years out now...still this album is just awesome. After so many listens, the theme of the record seems to be “brokenness”. That sounds depressing but it’s not. It’s honest, sometimes brutally so. Everything about this album is awesome but the lyrics are far and away my favorite part. So much music, especially by Christians, is all happy, sappy crap. While this album doesn’t have an explicit Christian message, I think the honesty here is more Christian in character than many of the phony “Christian” music out there. I just love this album. Here’s hoping there’s another one coming soon.

Great interview. I wish I would have been able to join. I had to look up that Enuff Z Nuff song as I'm not very familiar with them. I can see a little resemblance, but not much. Listening to The Pop Disaster today from start to finish. I still get chills and choked up a little when I listen to "Sideways". Such a perfect song with so much emotion, dynamics, surprises, and little nuances that make the song so amazing.
