I might prefer Testament, not sure yet, but I still really like Anthrax and don't mind them being in the top 4Christian Thrash Rules wrote:Testament should definitely replace Anthrax in the Big Four. I don't really care for Slayer, but they do belong for sure. Anthrax are not near as good as Testament though.

Never realized they went this far toward death metal
Check out Legions Of The Dead from the same album.
Also if you like Chuck's death vocals, check out the Demonic album.

I like Testament but I would put Metal Church and Over Kill in the Big 4 before Testament.

First two Ensiferum albums are untouchable indeed. I enjoy this new one quite a lot though, but that's because I'm not exactly opposed to what is essentially a more power metal approach. Not that they're moving in that direction but they sort of diversified their sound with an element that I happen to really like.Black Rider wrote:What do you think? I find this and the new Wintersun decent enough but they are better when they work together imo.
As for Wintersun, their new album is good and interesting, but Jari could use a bit more restraint.

I think the big four is more by popularity than music. Anthrax had more commercial success than Testament so they got it.Bronze Age wrote:Christian Thrash Rules wrote:Testament should definitely replace Anthrax in the Big Four. Vince Neil: Exposed. Such childish, sexual lyrics on 3 or 4 songs. But this album is better than any Motley Crue I've ever listened to. Inspired song writing and tons of energy.

I know it is about sales but the principle is not that different. It is not unusual for someone to say Anthrax does not belong in the big 4 but band x does. Whether it is because they feel band x deserves more status, visibility, or money/sales, has a better body of work it is still mostly the same sentiment.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:I think the big four is more by popularity than music. Kix - Midnite Dynamite & Blow My Fuse: some of the vocal delivery on early Kix sort of irks me but I think my rigidity keeps me from enjoying things sometimes. Both this albums rock but I do like the vocals on Blow my Fuse better.

I like all of Gamma Ray's and Kix stuff, hard to pick a favorite.Bronze Age wrote:Gamma Ray - Heading For Tomorrow: my favorite from these guys. Lots of pop metal and Queen influence in this goofy, cheesy and fun power metal album. I absolutely see this as being apart from Helloween. I just don't hear this as a follow up to Keepers at all. Sigh no More and Insanity and Genius were a huge letdown and this never got the follow up it deserved. I wish Scheepers and Hansen would record another album together somewhat like this.

Not a fan of the instrumental style in this song or the album overall, but Chester's screams help the song alot
