So it's the Black album with different lyrics and a weird sounding vocalist? 😆

It's definitely different. You can tell where certain songs were mimicking certain parts of the original, but it's all new songs. My favorite's the second one.

Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Underrated, imo one of their best. Ik it's BR's favorite.

^Sanitarium is great in concert

Took a mountainous all day road trip yesterday. Here is the secular stuff I listened to:

Van Halen - Best of (DLR and Sammy songs)
Styx - The Grand Illusion (masterpiece!)
St Vitus - Born too Late (epic doom)
Steelheart - Just a Taste EP

Lamb of God: Sacrament (15th Anniversary Edition). I didn't expect it to stand out from all the other heavy growly music I've been sampling, but it did. The songs kept my attention. They were catchy, interesting, varied. I'll be listening to this again soon.

Sabaton: The War to End all Wars. I've sampled enough of Sabaton to realize most of the albums sound the same as the next. So I will probably pick a few to really get to know and enjoy. This is probably the favourite. I think it's the first one that Pethead suggested I sample and I know the songs the best.

I like the LoG sound but they mock God too much for me.
My favorite Sabaton albums are Metalizer and The Last Stand.

Since you like TWtEAW, The Great War should appeal to you, as well.

I've been a bit estranged from my brother for over a decade but in the last few months he's been reaching out to text with quite a bit. He's a big LoG fan so I've been trying to get to know their music a bit. I don't know the lyrics at all yet but I'm sure they will eventually grate against me if they do go down the vein you're suggesting.

Pethead, The Great War is my 2nd favourite after TWtEaW. None of the others have really done it for me; I've listened to Carolus Rex multiple times as it's supposed to be one of their best but it just doesn't click with me. Because all their stuff is very similar, it could be that the first albums I listened to imprinted onto my brain!

Since we are talking about Sabaton, I will join in to the dialogue

I have been a casual fan until last Wednesday. Now I am a casual fan that has seen them in concert. Here are the songs they performed:

Finally one that actually reimagines the song and doesn't just make the instruments slightly heavier and add growls

Shok Paris - Steel and Starlight: I kind of see the Dio resemblance but honestly Vic Hix brings Graham Bonnet to mind more than Dio.

Ruthless - Metal Without Mercy: Nasty and dark USPM that is slower tempo but heavy and pounding. Capable vocalist can go high but mostly goes for a rough style.

Mekong Delta - Tales of a Future Past: my least listened to album from MD and the hardest one to get into but still great. Pretty prog heavy.

Cynic - Focus: a masterpiece and I actually like the robo vocals now.

It's good, but the vocals are just kinda weird. It would be better if they were more early Death or Mortification like. It almost sounds like they're underwater or something.

The vocals are more brutal death/deathcore style

Really? I love the deathcore band Saving Grace and the vocals are more clear. Maybe it's just production idk

Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 2

My oldest picked that one to listen, I occasionally let them pick a CD and the oldest two are obsessed with Helloween.

Ratt - Detonator & Dancin' Undercover: I love this kind of stuff.

Watchtower - Control and Resistance: extremely progressive metal. Hardcore high pitched vocals. Legendary.

Banshee - Cry in the Night: killer USPM, kind of Reminds me of Ruthless but cleaner. Their best. After this they are more hard rock/heavy metal.

Halloween - No One Gets Out: Outstanding USPM, rough around the edges, way heavier than their 80's stuff.

Acridity - For Freedom I Cry: Great late to the party thrash. At first the vocals reminded me of Hetfield/Billy but I actually think them remind me of Billy and and easier going version of Dark Angel.
