Who is the most Christian friendly thrash band?

The three most common names that seem to pop up are Megadeth, Testament and Overkill. 


While those bands have a few critical songs about organized religion, the majority of the music is considered less offensive than other bands.

Early Overkill can be pretty sexual.

And they have their, Deny The Cross song.

If you consider profanity to make it unchristian, that’s gonna narrow your options. If you can tolerate some profanity so long as the themes of the songs are OK, that opens up the possibilities. In the latter case, most Belladonna Anthrax is pretty tame. But it does have occasional swearing.

This topic is ridiculous.  Almost none of this early thrash stuff was really Christian at all.  It's like saying which sewage plants produce the tastiest meals, or which Nazi death camp was the most kosher.

The "Christian friendly" label in and of itself is dumb.  It mostly means you prefer to ingest subtle lies than overt ones.

I played along for this thread, but this is just not healthy to pretend that "Christian friendly" lyrics are so much better.

The meaning is that they are a young band trying to be shocking and rebellious.  The drummer did not like the title at the time.

I’d say that if we’re looking for lyrics with a biblical worldview it’s probably best not to look at much secular music—or a lot of so-called Christian music for that matter. 

If someone is claiming classic thrash is Christian that would be silly for sure.

However, it’s not hard to understand why Christians would prefer a song about government alien conspiracies (“Hangar 18”) over, say, a song blaspheming Christ.

I think they mean no anti god or church or praise satan and sex and drugs etc and I think Metallica fit that bill for the most part, bar perhaps jump in the fire. Some say the god that failed too, but I'd have no problem with that even if I was christian because it's James as a kid seeing God fail his mother and religion as he saw it and is an honest account and that's a ll that matters. So yeah I'd say Metallica is the "Christian friendly".

Let’s compare it to movies. Hollywood has always been anti-Christian. But that doesn’t mean that 12 Angry Men is morally equal to American Pie.

12 Angry Men is just one story.  A bit equivalent to a song.

A band and their catalog is more like a studio, or a decades' worth of movies.

So is Warner Bros more Christian than Paramount?

I’d have to look at their whole catalog of films. The same way I do for bands. But that’s not the point. The point is that all secular content is not equally problematic. Otherwise, might as well toss on a porno.

I’m not sure what the difficulty is in saying “hey, a Christian might find this band less objectionable.” It’s not the same thing as saying, “obviously this band is saved because they don’t swear so much.”

I did this because some folks here are sensitive to content. It should be known I’m a big Pantera fan, so I’m not thin skinned.

I don't get this. In every media there's a message of some sort and upholding a standard is normal. We wouldn't argue X rated movies are the same as PG 13 ones.

I was talking outside the Christian music industry.

It's not all equally problematic but there are often a lot of more subtle anti-God ideas in "Christian-friendly" music.   

The "Christian-friendly" thread is even listed under the Christian forum here.  That doesn't quite square with the definition of Christian-friendly that you gave.

There's no such thing as soft or diet Christianity.

I also see a lot of wishful thinking that people in bands we like are really Christian.  Like Dream Theater for example, because they sometimes use allusions to religion.  I have seen no actual Christian teachings in their lyrics.

The best way to deceive is to mix some lies in with a lot of truth.

Maybe “least hostile to Christianity” or “least propensity for glorifying sin” would be a better way to phrase it

I’ll admit I get confused as to what constitutes Christian-friendly, but I recognize that people are looking for things that might not bother their conscience. That’s going to vary from person to person, of course.
