How much do you spend on music in a year?

After resisting it for years, I started streaming some. Mainly for two reasons:

1. It allows me to be more frugal and only buy albums I know I’m gonna spin again and again. With a young kid and a tighter financial situation than previously, that seemed the wisest course.

2. My old iPod classic doesn’t hold much of a charge anymore and my phone won’t hold nearly all my music (to be fair, neither will my 160 gig iPod classic). But I can stream stuff I already own and so access it easier and at any time.

Artists with kids have tight financial situations too, especially with today's inflation.

No

I know musicians have financial realities but don't act like you are owed something. I work a crap job and money is tight, I have to make choices where and when I spend my money, just like everyone.

I don't.  I work very hard for it.  I don't expect something for nothing, and I won't give what I've produced for nothing either.

From an April 14 article in Forbes, the approximate amount Spotify pays artists is $1 for 315 song streams. I would guess the number would be similar for YouTube, Apple Music, etc.

From my own streams, I get far, far less.  I dispute that the value is that high for most indie metal artists who didn't make their name in the 70s/80s/90s.

I was trying to put it in an easy-to-read format, and also trying to ensure I didn't under-estimate it. I thought $1 for every 135 listens was pretty horrible!

However I see from my CDBaby/Spotify receipts that I only got $0.00015272 per stream (at least for one particular song, other songs have different values)  in 2021.  I'd be curious from you other folks in bands what your rate is.

I got a book in the mail the other day and my wife brought it in and asked me what it was (since it was still in the mailing package).  I said "A book I don't have time to read right now".  She replied "Well at least it isn't another CD".

For me… I reckon I spend a lot!

Or fat sizes. All the bands that we like from the 80s and 90s have fans in their 40-50s. Most of us are slowly getting overweight, so they should just add a bit of material to the bottom half of the fronts of all their shirts.

Not tall sizes that I’ve seen, only large sizes.
