Man, having just spun AtWB again, I stand by my opinion. It’s easily the weakest, even if it’s still a good album.

Nailed, The Gift of Music, Drown, and Light of the World are all skip buttons for me.

Also, I Am and Laying the Demon to Rest, while great, are not even in their top 10 best. Razz

I just can't understand how some of you can think the AtWB is the weakest album.  Rank the Theocracy Albums! - Page 2 1f609  It may be my very favourite album of all time, definitely in the top 5 all-time!!!!

1) As The World Bleeds. Not a weak song; addition of lead guitarist added a needed element but was never used self-indulgently.

2) Ghost Ship. Continues in the vein of AtWB with even better production. All-in-all it was just ever-so-slightly less magical than AtWB.

3) Mirror of Souls. I can't stand the song Mirror of Souls, but it's the favourite Theocracy song of 2 of my 4 kids (and of Matt Smith's per one interview), so my opinion can definitely be challenged!

4) S/T: I have the remastered version with real drums. This was the last album of Theocracy's that I listened to, and it just doesn't match the song-writing and production of the others.

My “worst” is Currency in a Bankrupt World, not terrible but kind of boring for Theocracy. Although the whole second half of Ghost Ship (besides Easter) was kind of in that category for me

The riff is good, the chorus is just too soft. And the debut? Even Mountain, The Serpent's Kiss, and Ichthus?

I can forgive you for not liking Gift of Music, but THAT is a truly heretical opinion. Saying Call to Arms is better than the likes of Serpent’s Kiss (and most of the rest of the debut) is akin to saying any song on Metallica’s 72 seasons is better than Master of Puppets

Agree, Ghost Ship has a great first half though, almost every song in it is heavier than all the other Theocracy songs (besides of course Laying the Demon to Rest).

The debut would be easily Theocracy’s best album if it weren’t for MoS’s title track

You’ll probably like Mosaic then, a lot of it goes in a heavier direction (not quite to the level of LtDtR though)

I don’t know that anything on Mosaic is heavier than LtDtR, but Mosaic overall has the heaviest, thrashiest riffs in their catalog. So good.

Hah! Seth beat me to it.

To be fair, Kerrick’s main criteria for music is:

1. Band name unpronounceable
2. It can’t be catchy

The ending of TSK (from “Father bring us back to you…” to the end) is one of Theocracy’s most epic moments ever. And the instrumental part is amazing too

Don’t get me wrong, Theocracy’s debut is good. It’s just not their best. The longer songs grow dull. Not as dull as modern Maiden, of course, but dull. It’s a shame because they often have catchy choruses (such as The Serpent’s Kiss).
