Re: Best Death metal band
I don't know if I've ever seen it here, but in other forums that I visit mods often move threads that are posted in the "wrong" place. This might be a candidate?
If they count as death metal, Crimson Moonlight.
If CM doesn't count for being "too black metal," probably Sympathy.
If Sympathy's disallowed for their use of a drum machine (I know Anagogic Tyranny has live drums, but honestly they're this high mostly due to Arcane Path), then Becoming the Archetype.
If Becoming the Archetype is out for being "too core," then Woe of Tyrants.
I can't imagine why Woe of Tyrants wouldn't count as death metal, but if somebody can find a reason, then maybe Indwelling.

Those are some of my top faves, in that same order. I also really dug the Inversion album and the Oblation, Disencumbrance, and Obliteration demos, & Scrolls of the Megilloth is great IMO.

Re: Best Death metal band
Yeah xMMx, I liked the Inversion and Chords ft Grave comp (sounds like maybe you have originals?) pretty well when they came out, although they've slid down the pecking order somewhat over the years. Still solid, though. Of the demos, I'd rank them Obliteration, Oblation, Disencumbrance, although I remember at least one person way back calling the Disencumbrance the best Christian death metal ever. Scrolls, of course, is classic!
Impending Doom gets a couple mentions here -- I haven't bothered to give their newest one any attention after being basically bored with Baptized in Filth. Any thoughts? I like Serpent Servant and There Will Be Violence pretty well and felt like they had pretty good personality, but as mentioned bored with BiF and haven't felt like I need another album that will probably sound basically the same. Am I wrong? New one different or better?

Re: Best Death metal band
As someone who ADORES death metal, I really can't stand most Mortification, and I tolerate the rest.
I'm huge on Indwelling (see icon). And though Impending Doom has bored me since Serpent Servant, The Sin and Doom of Godless Men and Nailed. Dead. Risen. remain two of my favorite albums of all time. Death Will Reign is step back in the right direction, though. Embodyment and Inevitable End round out my top four. Drottnar's #5, but they're not death metal (though, they implement the kind of atonality that makes good death metal IMO).

Re: Best Death metal band
I really dig Warbound by Broken Flesh...its predecessors not so much.
I agree w/MadKraken on Impending Doom. I was into the Sin and Doom... demo & 1st full length. I don't enjoy their more recent releases, although they seem to be pretty well known.
The s/t Embodyment demo rules.
Grindboy, I did have original Oblation & Disencumbrance demos, but sold them when the Chords of the Grave comp came out. I'd probably rank the 3 critical demos on that release in the same order you have. It's a shame that comp is out of print!

Re: Best Death metal band
Well TTDR. . . I pick Crimson Thorn and Feast Eternal! I like Oblation and Discern too, but not as much. And first Discern over the 2nd by quite a bit, IMO.
I guess I'm happy to hear that Warbound may be better than Forever in Flames re: Broken Flesh. There was a lot of hype around FiF and I picked it up and found it brutal but kind of boring. So maybe I'll give them another shot.
Early Embodyment -- yes, yes, yes. Still awesome after all these years!

Immortal Souls.
