DarkFireDragoon wrote:As far as bands, this is the list I've come up with. It fluctuates a bit depending on mood and such. And I am sure I'm forgetting someone lol. But the tops are the tops.
- Stryper
- Tourniquet
- Megadeth
- Judas Priest
- Queen
- Bloodgood
- Zao
- Resurrection Band
- Iron Maiden
- Saint
- Spinal Tap
Oh, and if we were counting solo artist, Phil Keaggy, Impellitteri, Rob Rock, and Yngwie would probably be on the list as well.
So..... After thinking about it... I realized that I DID forget one big band on my list... RIOT. They'd prolly take the 10 spot and put Saint at 12. Can't move the Tap. Moral reasons.
Again though, outside of the top three, it fluctuates often enough. Vengeance Rising, Deliverance, Girlschool and Mortification are also pretty high up there. Probably next on the list. So many crazy good bands. And again. I'm sure I'm forgetting more.
Re: Fave bands?
I'll list the top 10 ones I most listen to.
Bob Dylan - best songwriter ever? and plays by his own rules. Rarely repeats himself.
Megadeth - Dave Mustaine's snarl
Judas Priest - that double guitar attack and Rob's amazing vocals.
Joanne Shaw Taylor - amazing modern blues guitarist & vocalist.
Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia - those jams man.
Thyrfing - Swedish viking metal. Decided I liked the style & would collect 1 band.
Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne - The legends of metal.
Alice Cooper - always about the songs & puts on a great show.
Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention - Funny & amazing musicianship.
Daniel Johnston - DIY musician overcoming mental health issues.

Re: Fave bands?
I kind of bounce around in terms of "favorites" but some that have stuck and I can always listen to are:
Scale the Summit
Overkill
Annihilator
Megadeth
Saving Grace
Vengeance Rising
Tourniquet
Iron Savior
Freedom Call
Helloween
Gamma Ray
Deliverance
War of Ages
Saxon
Judas Priest
Accept
Living Sacrifice
Rob Rock
The list goes on and on. However my all time favorite band period is actually Five Iron Frenzy. But all in all, Metal is my absolute favorite type of music.

Re: Fave bands?
I dig their music and have seen them live several times going back to their early albums, but don't listen to a lot of their tunes as I'm not so much a fan of most of their particular brand of occultic lyrical themes. I do have a cherry-picked cross-section of songs from all eras, though. Sorry for the slow reply!Zymologist wrote:xMetalMarkx wrote:DEVO is my favorite band. Their songs are catchy and economical, and many of them are a trip to play. They helped pioneer conceptual music videos. Their elaborate 1982 tour production was the first to feature interactive rear-projection. The way they discuss topics in songs and interviews is a smart mix of seriousness and cynical humor. Their costuming and choreography is engaging and well-tailored to the material.
I love a ton of metal, though. Suffocation and Malevolent Creation are a couple of my long-standing fave metal bands. Also enjoy Origin, Deeds of Flesh, Obscura, Revocation, Beyond Creation alongside a certain amount of more workplace-friendly bands. Napalm Death and Rotten Sound are probably faves for grind, along with Wormrot, P.L.F., and Insect Warfare.
Welcome to the CMR!
Suffocation and Deeds of Flesh. Do you listen to Nile?
