Fave bands?
Seems a bit obvious but who, as Christians, are everybody's favourite bands and why? I am a huge Alter Bridge fan as I love Mark Tremonti's style of playing - the way he can build up his lead and rhythm ability from almost classical to face-melting, but always perfectly complementing the other elements in the song. I also find the lyrics beautifully written and very inspiring. I'm into anything that sounds heavy and full, as I tend to always find an element in the music that I like. Apart from that though it's mainly Black Stone Cherry, AC/DC, Backyard Babies, Halestorm etc because... they rock! Also on a Christian metal level, Disciple are awesome!!

Re: Fave bands?
Iron Maiden (duh!) - my favorite band ever, one of the first metal bands I discovered, listening to them makes me happy
My Silent Wake - absolutely spectacular doom/death/acoustic, eclectic, heartfelt, thoughtful lyrics
Weakling - hands-down my favorite black metal album (they only made one), apocalyptic, epic, dark, mind-blowing
(I highly recommend listening to the whole song - it starts off slow but it is SO GOOD)
Some other favorites of mine:
Alcest
The 3rd And The Mortal
Sonata Arctica

Re: Fave bands?
Faves: mostly Classic Rock stuff, Beatles, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Styx, Journey, Bad Company, Yes, AC/DC, etc but that's the stuff I grew up on (I was the youngest in the house and listened to my brothers albums in the 70's). As for metal I have been listening to Stained Class a lot lately by Priest since finding it on vinyl. Maiden, Motley, GNR, any 80's bands.
Kerrick are Maiden gonna do anything else? I have been happy with everything from 1999 thru MOFLAD but just couldn't get into FF. I hope they have plans for more studio stuff.

Re: Fave bands?
Yeah, welcome dude. It's hard to say my favorite band. My favorite Christian band is Theocracy because their lyrics are deep and varied and their epic songs are some of my favorites. My favorite metal band...either Metallica or Judas Priest just cause they melt face. My favorite genre is progressive rock though, and my favorite prog band is probably King Crimson because they virtually started the genre, continually experimented, and have some of its best songs.

Re: Fave bands?
DEVO is my favorite band. Their songs are catchy and economical, and many of them are a trip to play. They helped pioneer conceptual music videos. Their elaborate 1982 tour production was the first to feature interactive rear-projection. The way they discuss topics in songs and interviews is a smart mix of seriousness and cynical humor. Their costuming and choreography is engaging and well-tailored to the material.
I love a ton of metal, though. Suffocation and Malevolent Creation are a couple of my long-standing fave metal bands. Also enjoy Origin, Deeds of Flesh, Obscura, Revocation, Beyond Creation alongside a certain amount of more workplace-friendly bands. Napalm Death and Rotten Sound are probably faves for grind, along with Wormrot, P.L.F., and Insect Warfare.

Re: Fave bands?
All-time, hands-down, til-my-dying-breath fave band is The Devil Wears Prada. Always get a warm and snuggly feeling when listening to them. All their albums, but Dead Throne and 8:18 in particular.
Their music video for Hey John, What's Your Name Again? was also, incidentally, my first introduction to heavy music with harsh vocals.
Beyond that, it'd be impossible to list more; I don't like comparing bands of different genres, as it's not really a fair fight, in my mind.
Using the metric of owning all albums of a specific band as a measuring stick..... In no order other than alphabetical:
7 Horns 7 Eyes (which I guess isn't saying much -- they only have one EP and one album but oh well )
August Burns Red
Beartooth (again -- only one album -- oh well)
Flyleaf, with Lacey Sturm
Grave Declaration (one album)
Love & Death (one album)
Oskord (only one EP)
Pantokrator
Sawol
Soul Embraced
Екклесиаст
And I guess, I could throw BabyMetal in there, too.

Re: Fave bands?
As far as bands, this is the list I've come up with. It fluctuates a bit depending on mood and such. And I am sure I'm forgetting someone lol. But the tops are the tops.
Oh, and if we were counting solo artist, Phil Keaggy, Impellitteri, Rob Rock, and Yngwie would probably be on the list as well.
- Stryper
- Tourniquet
- Megadeth
- Judas Priest
- Queen
- Bloodgood
- Zao
- Resurrection Band
- Iron Maiden
- Saint
- Spinal Tap

Metallica
My favorite album of all time is ...And Justice for All, so obviously they are one of my favorite bands.
Becoming the Archetype
So far almost all their albums are solid in my opinion with the exception of "I Am." Still one of my favorites, I appreciate the boldness in their lyrics as well.
Kyuss
John Garcia is my favorite rock vocalist of all time.

In no particular order:
Primordial
Nile
Antestor
Crowbar
Crimson Thorn
Moonsorrow
Dark Fortress (Morean is easily one of my favorite metal vocalists--listen to Venereal Dawn to see why)
Summoning
and a few obscure ones, just because:
Disencumbrance
Tengger Cavalry
Dodsmarsch
Elysian Blaze (talk about thick, dense, challenging music)

I'm a big Alter Bridge fan too, seen them live many times and love their lyrics although I thought the latest album, the lyrics were a bit dark. Probably like 'One Day Remains' the best although every album is very strong. I agree about Tremonti, he is an awesome guitarist.
Welcome to CMR my friend, I hope we all make you feel very welcome here.

Re: Fave bands?
Dark Tranquillity: a rare band that deserves respect in all aspects; musically, lyrically, intellectually and in overall artistic conception.
Ulver: amazing musicians, feel similarly as for DT even if their later direction isn't for me
Algaion: probably don't stand out to most people but have that spark for me, Vox Clamentis is a perfect EP
Drudkh: atmosphere without post/navel gazing
Metallica: teenage obsession, as with millions
For Christian bands, nothing unusual: Tourniquet, Deliverance, Crimson Moonlight, Believer, Slechtvalk

Re: Fave bands?
Man, narrowing the list down to "favorites" is really, really difficult....
The Absence
Amon Amarth
Battlecross
Blind Guardian
Boreworm
Cannibal Corpse
Dagon
Dark Tranquility
Deceased
Decrepit Birth
Deeds of Flesh
Demonaz
Demons & Wizards
Feast Eternal
Grendel
A Hill to Die Upon
I
Iced Earth
Immortal
In Flames
Iron Maiden
Keep of Kalessin
Kreator
Metallica
Nevermore
Nightrage
Obscura
Pyramaze
Redemption
Sepultura (prior to Roots)
Scar Symmetry
Still Remains
The Sword
That's the alphabetized short list. If I had to condense it down to a top 10, I'd have to cheat and list things like "anything involving Abbath and/or Demonaz", and "anything involving Hansi Kursch and/or Jon Shaffer" to make extra space
