Re: Recently Watched Movies
Interesting! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it. I've only seen the original, but it's a fantastic movie! Wes Craven seems like an interesting dude. I LOVE the Scream series (though regret ever watching The Last House On The Left).

Never Sleep Again is pretty good so far (i've just finished the segment about NOES 3). Lots of interesting insight on the making of the films and talking about the process in making the special effects. They even interviewed Dokken (Don looks VERY different now, i didnt know it was him at first) about the "Dream Warriors" song (which Don cant perform anymore due to the strain it puts on his voice).

Re: Recently Watched Movies
Definitely over-hyped. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, so I can't say much. However, I did like how Godzilla wasn't the mindless smashing overgrown lizard that the 90's version made him out to be. Whoever wrote the story stayed true the old Japanese black and white ideals (hint hint ).
As for action, there wasn't really any. I just kind of moved along with only one or two surprises.
One thing ... and my daughter said what I was thinking when it was all said and done ... the movie was named wrong. Once you see it you'll understand.
Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie. But for a "Summer Blockbuster" it was a disappointment.

Godzilla in Imax 3D. It was alright, but don't see it in 3D. It's not worth it.

^Nothing is worth watching in 3D IMO... I'm seeing Godzilla tomorrow though! Looking forward to it.

Ah, you'll enjoy it! Lots and lots of destruction!
Yeah, you're probably right. Unfortunately, I figured I would see it since it is in Imax, you know, but they only had it in 3D. That being said, I won't go there again. The new theater near me has 4k projectors and leather recliners! I should have gone there.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
We gathered up the children and made some snacks. We headed downstairs and pulled out the VHS tape. Put it in the player and watched while Burl Ives narrated The Ewok Adventure.
Peweeeee, did that one stink! I'd rather watch Milo and Otis 10 times in a row before watching The Ewok Adventure again!
You all may wonder what Lucas was thinking with Jar Jar Binks, but it turns out, he stopped thinking 'A Long, Long Time Ago...' when he made stuff like The Ewok Adventure.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
Went to the latest X-Men last night. The story was good and the action was good. However, I was disappointed that they proved me right to my kids. I told them this would likely be more Wolverine and less Captain America on the "who is our audience, adults or kids" scale, and several "colorful metaphors" and a completely unnecessary shot of Hugh Jackman naked (from the rear, thank goodness) proved me right. I think that has been my biggest disappointment with the entire X-Men series: with the exception of X-Men First Class, they have all focused primarily on Wolverine.

What did you think? Do you agree that the movie was misnamed?

Re: Recently Watched Movies
Ah, man, I couldn't disagree with you anymore! Except for the nude shot of Wolverine, that was unnecessary. They could've shown him as a screw up in another way. But otherwise I enjoyed it. It was a fun film, great action and story. Also, Quicksilver's scene was a little too, dare I say, quick? Ha! But seriously, it was. He was great. Thoroughly enjoyable. Oh, and just a heads up, stay tuned until after the credits at the very end.BearDad wrote:Went to the latest X-Men last night. The story was good and the action was good. Re: Recently Watched Movies
Hugh Jackman's butt was so unnecessary. So unnecessary it made me laugh, haha. I think the franchise also focus too much on Wolverine which is why First Class was so refreshing. Focusing on Magneto and Xavier building the first branch of the X-Men then watching it collapse. Really liked that they made XavierVaak wrote:Ah, man, I couldn't disagree with you anymore! - Spoiler:
- give up on mutants and turned him into a semi druggie.
- Spoiler:
- beginning scene where they are in the future and the sentinels just rip through the X-Men like paper...
- Spoiler:
- pretty much erased the first 4 films from existence with Days of Future Past by having Logan go back in time and rewrite history. Mystique being the key to the future was unexpected to me, REALLY liked that they pushing more characters into the more major roles instead of just having Wolverine on camera for the whole movie.
That must be how censors scripts look like when they block out all the bad language.

Just saw Gravity. That was intense. Really, really intense. Also, they should have a sequel called "Ryan's Island." It's sort of like Gilligan's island, but the person is alone and competent.

World's End did get much better as it went on. The first third was just party animal mentality.
