The Blackwell Ghost 8
A few effective scares, but lacking the charm of the early installments. I also don’t particularly care for the recent direction the series has taken, especially because it includes ginormous plot holes and less focus on the paranormal. 1–5 were great, with the exception of 2, but 6–8 have been letdowns overall.

The First Omen
Pretty efective! Ties in nicely as a prequel.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I've been watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Spider-man: Homecoming, just started with Thor: Ragnarok. Also since my wife is feeling better we're watching Harry Potter again, we watched Philosopher's Stone and started watching Chamber of Secrets.
Man those are some basic movie picks when I sum those up

A strangely profound new movie simply called
Here (2024)
I've never seen a movie like this. It's a happy, sad and joyous look at the journey
of life.
Strange, now I feel like watching it again.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
The wife and I watched Am I Racist the other night. Meh it was alright, though not nearly as good as What Is A Woman. It relied too heavily on attempts at humor of Walsh just being incredibly awkward instead simply the absurdity within the everything-is-racist movement. There were some very good moments though and I loved how they incorporated how much money all these activists are raking in by telling people they're racist via their seminars, books, etc. Overall it was entertaining and did pretty well at pointing out the obvious ridiculousness of the whole movement, though could definitely have been better.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
I heard they “girlbossified” that movie and pretty much trampled on the legacy of the original, is that accurate?

^
watch it and see for yourself
Even though I have seen the original and heard about the backlash, I prefer to watch a movie for it's own merit and not make comparisons. I was not disappointed.

Alien: Romulus (2024)
This was WAY overhyped. It relies extremely heavily on callbacks to previous films, but sometimes they’re done very awkwardly. (The use of Ian Holm’s likeness is unpardonable). The set design is exquisite, the visuals are often quite striking, the two leads are more than capable, and the music is effective. But the ending is simultaneously disturbing and terrible, the other characters are as blah as they come, and the film never manages to justify its existence.

Agree with most of this, especially the bold. However, I was underwhelmed by the leads as well.
It added ZERO to the Alien canon/universe/story.
Immediately after watched Alien as a palette-cleanser.

Re: Recently Watched Movies
At this point they just need to stop making Alien films. The first two are perfect.
