We had a poster a few years ago (wont name names) who flooded the board with political topics. Guess the mods figured it was best to just not let that happen again.

Yep, there was a time where most of the threads in the General section were political and it was just too much.

You could have a political section, but I just don't see how you can not discuss it at all when it affects all of us in profound ways. Plus any number of social topics are going to be affected by political policies.

I believe it is mainly because we have people here from very different sides of the political spectrum, and the discussions can get very contentious and even nasty at times.

That said, a designated section for Politics discussions is a great idea and I would welcome that.

Political discussion on the Internet tends to go one of two ways: a one sided echo chamber, or the online equivalent of a cage full of monkeys screeching and flinging poop at each other. This site tends toward the former, although I don’t mind the discussions that get into politics (probably because I tend to side with the political opinions of the majority here)

I think we can model Christian charity in such discussions, but some think kindness and being "nice" are synonymous, they are not. Jesus was/is kind, but he's no "Mr. Nice Guy!" As for the one sided echo chamber, eh, even conservatives can be wrong on various issues, and some liberals have not gone so far left that they're wrong on everything.

Some people have become so "open-minded", their brains have fallen out.

Also note that it's always one "side" of things that wants discussions shut down.

It's especially annoying, given the fact that no one forces them to participate in political threads or conversations.

Let’s be real…

Many of us are itching to talk politics, but unfortunately there are some that don’t play nice and will break the rules. 

Unless we can strive to take the “high road” when it gets heated, the only other thing would be to start suspending or banning individuals that get out of control.

I think most of the long term members here won’t behave so badly that they risk getting banned. 

It’s usually trolls that come in like a bull in a china shop that push the boundaries and test the moderators.

I enjoy political discussions most when there are people from opposing sides who have enough maturity to actually discuss and debate their ideas without devolving into the aforementioned poop-flinging monkeys. By “echo chamber” I meant that most political discussions here are mostly just us all agreeing with each other, with only the occasional opposition who usually gets piled on. Which is good in a way since most of us seem to be on the right side (no pun intended) of a lot of moral and cultural issues. However, when everybody agrees political discussion is pretty boring lol

Things on the left today are impossible to defend, that's why most won't enter into serious debates, especially on the trans issue. They won't tolerate anything less than compliance and obedience!

Fair enough, for the most part. I can think of exactly two positions traditionally associated with the left (although perhaps incorrectly), environmentalism and being anti-war, that actually make sense. Most of the rest of their beliefs though, especially when it comes to social and family issues, are indeed pretty indefensible.

Oddly enough, even their environmental and antiwar stances often don't make sense or are flat-out virtue signals only. 

I've come to believe that their most basic position is anti- conservative or anti-Christian. They don't have their own beliefs,  they simply rebelliously rail against conservatives,  who they hate.

Any group that celebrates child murder, child mutilation, and unlimited sexual perversion is to be resisted.

True. Lots of hypocrisy from their supposed environmentalists, flying massive private jets around while preaching about how we should stop driving and eating meat to save the planet. And these days the Democratic party is just about as pro-war as the Republican party, possibly even more. In fact, while Trump has many faults, I’d say he’s the most anti war president of the millennium so far

They gave up the anti war schtick after 9/11, everyone in government seems to be on the take using war.

^Yes, and the problem is not just George Soros, it is ANY unelected individual, group, cabal, etc. whom we never voted for but who end up making the decisions in the WH.  We know this is happening and they are not even pretending anymore.

Tbh I don't see much of that rule being followed anyway... I follow it as far as not starting political discussions, but once one is started I gladly join in

who wants to waste time talking about old men. Who wants to waste time talking about things they can never change. I'd rather talk abut stuff I like or is worthy of my time. Not old guys that all suck or careless about anyone thing else except their ego and bank accounts and casue nothing but division. I'd rather be completely oblivious to what goes on in the world of politics, knowing about it does zero for anyone and you can't change it.
