Politics Quiz

This thread is not started to provoke any arguing. I'm just curious. Where do you fall at in this quiz?

It's been rated one of the best quizzes out there. It's very short and to the point.

What you get is a map. A diamond shaped map. The left is 'liberal'. The right is 'conservative'. The top is Libertarian and the bottom is communist/socialist.

Anyway .... in this quiz I ended up in the TOP part. So that means I'm a Libertarian. I do however, lean towards the left. So I'm a left-leaning Libertarian.

I know Aaron also is Libertarian and he falls close to the center.

Very true. But this is just a light-hearted quiz to basically just get a feel for 'big-picture' politics.

I am actually registered as an independent...I noticed there wasn't any foreign policy questions..wonder if there was if it would change things?

Right where I thought I would be.

Strongly Libertarian.

I would have thought that I would have crossed more into the conservative range.  I do think that private charity should be done more and less government handouts.  However, I don't feel that you can do away with ALL government handouts.  I have no problem with taking care of people who CAN NOT take care of themselves or have no one to do so.  I DO have a problem with people becoming generational welfare abusers or giving benefits to people who illegally enter our country.

I do have a problem with corporate welfare.  To me, giving corporations who have no shortage of cash money to build in your state is just cronyism.  That's how you reward the corporations that fattened your election campaign and the public never sees it.  Let the corporations pay their own way for expansion.  Besides, it doesn't work as many manufacturing jobs took money to build factories in the 70s and 80s just to relocate to China during the latter 90s and the 2000s.

It sounds to me like the way the questions are worded kind of slants toward Libertarian answers.  That said, I actually am a Libertarian and it accurately plotted my answers as a very slightly right leaning hardcore Libertarian.

Considering it is coming from a Libertarian organization, I guess it is to be expected that many of the answers are going to skew that direction.  In every political quiz I've ever taken, I have been identified as a firm centrist +- a few ticks to either side.  This one has me as a falling-off-the-edge liberal.

I got libertarian, along the right side one square from right conservative.
I do feel that the government has a role in protecting us and that's about that.  I love the idea of charities stepping up taking a more active role in helping people rather than relying on the government, but I do believe there is some more limited role for the government, perhaps extremely temporary assistance, not to the point that someone can live on it.  My general feeling towards the government is "If the government is the solution, how stupid was the question?"

But also I should add, in the grand scheme of things I have certainly become more liberal, or libertarian, in some areas.  In the perfect system, I'd love much more immigration because we could evangelize so much easier and, of course, in the perfect system, the government wouldn't all but be the declared enemy of business on a whole and fighting tooth and nail to give every deadbeat loser a guaranteed check for simply existing.
But of course, like in physics, we don't live in the system in which we come up with these realities.

I like this quiz because it's short and to the point. I know that the longer it is - the more detailed it would be.

I actually answered some of those as yes and no, when many of them would be "maybe. " Because, these are complex issues in a even more complex world. The first time I took the quiz, I came out more libertarian leaning towards the right. But I still thought that wasn't right. I guess if the quiz expanded its questions and got more specific you would see a different result.

I thought it was pretty accurate, because before I ever found this quiz I had identified myself as a Left-leaning Libertarian.

That is exactly what it pegged me as ... so there must be some truth to it. I know it's not hugely expanded, but I think it's a pretty accurate quiz nonetheless.

I was a centrist, close to the very middle with a slight bend towards conservatism and statism.

This one also ranked me near the center with a slight bend towards conservatism and authoritarianism.

It marked me as a right leaning Libertarian. Although before taking the quiz I would have said that I am leaning more Libertarian these days and growing increasingly disenfranchised with the GOP.

OK seriously though, I can't say I thought much of that quiz.  Not only because it pegged me wrong (which it did), or because it oversimplifies complex issues (which it does), but also because of the questions it DOESN'T ask.

Abortion.  The environment.  Religious freedom.  Terrorism.  Immigration.  Gun control.  Health care.  Privacy.  Also, as SA pointed out there's nothing about foreign policy.  These are HUGE, DIVISIVE issues, and are a major part of the political landscape (at least here in the US).  I realize that this is supposed to be a super-quickie quiz and all, but I find it bizarre that none of these made the list.

Sorry if I'm being a wet blanket in topic that's supposed to be fun, and I'm not looking to start a fight. It's just weird to me that this is considered one of the best political quizzes out there.

EDIT:  I will try out that link that CrimsonWarrior posted.  I think I took it years ago when many of my beliefs were very different, and I'm curious to see how it places me now.

SECOND EDIT:  That one has me as in the left-libertarian area.  Not perfect, but closer to reality than the first one.  The questions were better.

Yeah, I'd say that both of mine were pretty accurate too. I do wish that, like Verbum Lux said, the shorter quiz had mentioned some other huge issues.

I scored very close to you on this, lower my dot 1 or 2 notches and over to the right one notch thats what i scored heh

Some of the questions were difficult to answer as they are dependent on on certain situations.

For example. The draft. I tend toward being against a draft. Though I could see it becoming necessary in a just war (one were we are under true imminent danger, like an invasion), it seems like many wars are unnecessary and thus a draft is egregious. Also, the government's role in free trade. I believe that the gov is there to promote the general welfare and thus if it is necessary to protect the people's economy by restricting free trade, then it's acceptable. But, I'm largely against controlling trade and taking on the role of providing for welfare.

Gag, what's up with all these gimped questions? What a horrible survey. Many of the questions I could neither agree or disagree with. I don't have time to explain it all, but I kept feeling like I was being interviewed by commies.
