Re: Random thoughts...
I believe that both are dinos, Behemoth a land dino and Leviathan a water dino. They were clearly still around at the time of Job that‘s why God talks about them to Job.seth wrote:While Leviathan is a bit more ambiguous, Behemoth (described in Job) is clearly a dinosaur. No extant animal is that large and has a tail that could be compared to a cedar tree.
The evolutionary model (which states all these creatures died long before humans ever existed) is merely the atheist’s creation myth, there is no need for Christians to give it any credence.

"Some people are mean,
Jardamarah was my friend.
He used to live in Guatemala,
Now he lives in jail.
He always said that he wanted to be someone
But living life in prison will not get you anywhere."
I remember writing this. I though it was so good back then lol.

I stand corrected.

Better than most Whitecross lyrics.

Mythical doesn’t mean not real.BaleMaster wrote:I wouldn't dub Leviathan as mythical. Ancient Near East cosmology treats L as quite real.Theonymic wrote:A mythical monster of chaos, the ultimate devouring and destroying monster, closely tied up with death itself.seth wrote:That brings up another interesting question - what exactly was the Leviathan? I have always assumed some kind of aquatic dinosaur, as it is not described as a fish specifically in the book of Job
According to Psalm 103 (104 in Masoretic), Leviathan, for all its power, is Yahweh's pet.

Behemoth is the counterpoint to Leviathan. It’s the apex of beastliness and virility*, aggressive and trampling everything in its path.seth wrote:While Leviathan is a bit more ambiguous, Behemoth (described in Job) is clearly a dinosaur. One could say that Leviathan is utter toxic feminity embodied, and Behemoth is utter toxic masculinity embodied. The mouth of chaos and the heel of tyranny.
* The word that gets translated “tail” in Job 40:17 is referring to another…appendage.

I wouldn’t use “clearly” in reference to this discussion. The language has mythopoetic aspects and Job already has probably the hardest language in the Hebrew Bible. Even aspects of the description that seem clear are not necessarily so—see Theonymic’s point about the “tail.”seth wrote:While Leviathan is a bit more ambiguous, Behemoth (described in Job) is clearly a dinosaur. That being said, I’m open to identifying the animals as dinosaurs.
David Clines’ 3 volume commentary is close to my views. Of course, you can always consult chapter 4 of this : https://www.proquest.com/openview/9a5254ba83860f6257257b586e966b62/1.pdf?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=51922&diss=y
Robert Fyall’s Now My Eyes Have Seen Him takes a different approach than I do and argues explicitly that Leviathan is satan and Behemoth is death. I disagree, but the book is worth a read.

Woke nonsense! I'm so saddened. I used to love USA TODAY. It was a go-to paper for me coming to adulthood in the 90s.

It appears that the word bow in Revelation 6.2 can also mean rainbow. Get it?MagnusPrime wrote:scottmitchell74 wrote:At hotel reading USA TODAY for the first time in ages.
