I love me some thrash too when the mood fits. I like all kinds of metal but it comes down to a handful of bands from each genre of metal I always go back to. Very very selective and more of a favorite albums person than a favorite bands person.StevenCressler wrote:Well, I am too, but I probably like nu-metal more than anyone else on here.Dustofyears wrote:Anyway you're a thrash head to the core and till death do us part, sweet.

Yeah, I like the riffs on that album a lot. I think it's very underrated.Pethead wrote:You’ve got R really high on your list.

Maybe it's not too far removed. FNM and rage hmm. Might look up and see what their influences are if I can find something.Temple of Blood wrote:I suspect Korn was also influenced a bit by RATM.

I agree...
This makes me think of the self titled King's X record. In particular, "What I Know About Love".
The first thing I thought back in the day when Doug's bass line started was "this is HEAVY"...
It kind of colored my view of the whole record because I always think of it as being heavy...

same. that was the first Kings X record I heard by complete accident. It was a cassette on my friends floor and the cover caught my eye. It was either Junior's gone wild or world around me that was the first song I heard from them. And I was mesmerized and amazed by what I heard. A heavy darker Beatles was my initial impression of the sound.crucifyd wrote:Temple of Blood wrote:The part of heaviness that most don't understand is that some of it comes from just which notes are chosen, the scales, the intervals, etc. How often do you hear anyone talk about that?

Lost in Germany is amazing! Ty’s guitar playing was so unique. His tones are great! Doug also was singing in his prime. Great album! Overall, I actually like the s/t better than the first two.

Honestly? I agree. Priest is obviously the OG, but I find Saint’s catalog more engaging overall. (Painkiller is a masterpiece, though).Dustofyears wrote:Saint is better than Judas Priest and writes better songs with more memorable hooks and choruses.

Yep honestly that's what I think. I was going to mention Painkiller. That is a killer metal tune. If only they did more of that.Pethead wrote:Honestly? I agree. Agree, Painkiller is a real banger but most other Priest songs I’ve heard are pretty mid tierDustofyears wrote:Yep honestly that's what I think. I was going to mention Painkiller. It’s my definition of what heavy metal is. Every song is memorable and different from the previous song.
My favorites…
Painkiller
Metal Meltdown
Between the Hammer and the Anvil
Night Crawler
One Shot at Glory

Replace One Shot At Glory with A Touch Of Evil and that's my list as well.
