I see what you did there!!Dustofyears wrote:Mic please...thank you... ahem...Vengeance Rising are one of the most unique thrash bands in the christian and circular world and you can't stop it. They didn't mimic Slayer or Metallica or even Pestilence. Just about every thrash band sounds like one of the big four or a combo of said four. You can't say that about Vengeance Rising, no sir. They were their own singular and raw savage beast. Roger had a lot to do with that. To my mind, they sounded like a band ripping out peoples throats, if not sawing through their necks. No other thrash band has ever invoked that image and made such an impression on my mind as Vengeance rising did the first time I heard them, nor has any death metal band.
So, didn't answer question-can't think of anything just yet. Something might pop up later though.

Living Sacrifice - Reborn/The Hammering Process
These albums never really clicked with me. I prefer the Infinite Order and I prefer For Today overall. Skillet is another one. I prefer FTF.

Every time I try to listen to a Zao song I have to turn it off after about 30 seconds.TZ75 wrote:Noisy hardcore or post-hardcore bands like Zao and Training for Utopia. I just never liked or understood their style.
To me that stuff is NOT "music"! It's like aural torture.

Stryper's Against the Law has always been my least favorite from them. AfO and RtHOoY are good songs, but aside from that I find the album on the boring side, even if I like it overall. I've also found Wytch Hazel kinda boring, but I've also only heard 2 songs from them.
This is hard for me because while I have a lot of hot takes, they tend to be positive. I find much more stuff underrated than overrated.
At least as far as the music we discuss here, that is... I don't get 99% of the "best" modern music, be it pop, rap, or whatever else.

I'm going to go ahead and say it, mainstream Christian rock. Skillet, Kutless, TFK and the like just don't do it for me. Simple chords, singers that sound like Nickelback is their favorite vocalist. I just don't get it.

Skillet's Collide and TFK's Phenomenon might be worth checking out though, they don't sound like their other stuff.

Honestly vocals are the hardest part for me to get over, I prefer harsh vocals but even those sometimes are just bad. I rarely listen to hard rock except Wytch Hazel, that's my preference in that but mostly metal.StevenCressler wrote:I like those bands, but I get what you're saying.Legitwafflez wrote:I'm going to go ahead and say it, mainstream Christian rock. Re: Albums/Bands You Don’t Get
I could easily say metalcore or modern rock bands, but it looks like almost everybody else has pretty much the same opinion there. So I’m going with Mortification (or really any other pure death metal band, but Morty seems to be by far the most popular here). I just don’t get the appeal of that style at all

I was primarily talking about those albums (which seem to be everyone’s favorite), but I don’t care for the others from what I’ve heard either

I'd say Erasing the Goblin has a strong case for being death metal.Pethead wrote:Morty only has 3 death metal albums.
Re: Albums/Bands You Don’t Get
Nah, it’s got death stylings, but it’s not the pure DM of the earlier stuff. It’s one of their best later albums, though.

You should check out Relentless. It's thrash with cool choruses. Easily my favorite Morty album. But I agree, I'm not huge into full death metal.seth wrote:I was primarily talking about those albums (which seem to be everyone’s favorite), but I don’t care for the others from what I’ve heard either

True, I guess it's more deathrash. Though PMA isn't pure death either, as it's got strong doom influences.Pethead wrote:Nah, it’s got death stylings, but it’s not the pure DM of the earlier stuff. It’s one of their best later albums, though.

While I like Morty's first 3 albums I always thought they were behind their secular counterparts. IMO something about them seems like they were just a year or two behind.seth wrote:I could easily say metalcore or modern rock bands, but it looks like almost everybody else has pretty much the same opinion there. I know Dust considers Scrolls the best DM album of all time, and he's not gonna have the bias towards Christian music that we do.Legitwafflez wrote:While I like Morty's first 3 albums I always thought they were behind their secular counterparts. Well I listen to almost strictly Christian now but not always and the best of all time is a huge statement. I would disagree.StevenCressler wrote:I know Dust considers Scrolls the best DM album of all time, and he's not gonna have the bias towards Christian music that we do.Legitwafflez wrote:While I like Morty's first 3 albums I always thought they were behind their secular counterparts. I love Zao and I don't like much extreme metal, but these guys had heart. Seen em live twice and cherish those memories. Russ Cogdal was a madman and Jessie Smith pounded the skins like no other - surprised he didn't break a stick.Constantine wrote:Every time I try to listen to a Zao song I have to turn it off after about 30 seconds.TZ75 wrote:Noisy hardcore or post-hardcore bands like Zao and Training for Utopia.
