Not really "metal" (it might qualify as hard rock) but Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz.

Rush 'Freewill'
LOL, after hearing this on the radio ten thousand times, I finally pulled up the lyrics as RUSH is known for misheard lyrics.
"There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance
A planet of playthings, we dance on the strings of powers we cannot perceive
The stars aren't aligned or the Gods are malign, blame is better to give than receive
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill
There are those who think that they were dealt a losing hand
The cards were stacked against them they weren't born in Lotus Land
All preordained, a prisoner in chains, a victim of venomous fate
Kicked in the face, you can pray for a place, in heaven's unearthly estate
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill
Each of us, a cell of awareness, imperfect and incomplete
Genetic blends with uncertain ends on a fortune hunt that's far too fleet
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill"

That whole album is awesome. It seems to be a concept album about warriors battling against a global evil that has infiltrated the ranks of the elite. The warriors seem to have unlocked some sort of special power within their minds to bring to bear against the forces of evil, as detailed in the song "Mind Over Matter." At least, that's sort of what I got from it. Love that album. I love Rob Rock, but I actually like Fighting for the Earth better than the one he sang on.DilemnaNation wrote:I'll go with Warrior's "Fighting for the Earth". This is one of the greatest metal songs of it's time in my opinion and the lyrics are WAY more relevant now than they were in 1985.
Face to face, eye to eye
Weilding the axe, the mighty must die
Highest mountain, deepest sea
Eternally searching to destroy the beast
Cry of the jackal, is heard in the land
Immortal enemy, has come to challenge man
Secret science out of control
Conjured the serpent, up from below
We are fighting for the earth
We are fighting for the earth
Searching, searching, searching...
Blood and corruption, hideous crimes
Lying leaders, controlling our minds
Cloak and dagger, conspiracy of hate
Oh hear the cry before it's too late
We are fighting for the Earth

Re: Most 'Christian' song from a SECULAR metal or hard rock artist or band
I guess all their members are Christians except Uli; I got that per an interview where someone asked if they considered themselves a Christian band. And Weikath said you could say that they were, because everyone but Uli was a Christian. I want to say Kai Hansen is also not a Christian, but in the interview, I clearly remember Weikath saying everyone but Uli was. Of course, Hansen was probably gone at that point.Markus1987 wrote:For what I know Michael Weikath and Michael Kiske are Christians. And that song is written by Weikath.Kerrick wrote:^I read somewhere that most of Helloween's members were Christians. I haven't looked into their lyrics too much; has anyone researched them? I'm curious to learn more...

I don't think it's much secret as to the identity of the titular "Magic Maker."
I was sittin' on top of the world
Happy as a fool could be
Now there's a dark cloud overhead
I need someone to rescue me
You're an earthshaker
Dream maker
I'm crying out for a miracle cure
I know that you're the one for sure
Take me home magic maker
Take me home magic maker
Livin' hard
Livin' under the gun
Cross me and I'll make you bleed
Never knew what the good book said
My eyes were closed I could not see
You're an earthshaker
Dream maker
I'm crying out for a miracle cure
I know the one for sure
Take me home magic maker
Take me home magic maker
Take me home magic maker
Take me home magic maker

"Another day's gone by
My back's seen the walls
Thought about the will to try
I must have it all
Oh, I won't be a pretender
I want to be the light
And so to you I surrender
It's over
Give it up, make me a believer
Give it up, make me a believer"
The lyrics are, of course, open to interpretation, but I take it as a man crying out to God for intervention in his life. I think perhaps that is the meaning behind the song, intentional or not. Either way, it helps me pretty hard.

One of Maiden's most underrated and in my opinion, one of their best. A man in a tough place, looking for answers in life, turns to God in his moment of despair:
"God give me the answer to my life, God give me the answer to my dreams! God give me the answer to my prayers...God give me the answer to my being."

I always saw Sabbath's Wishing Well as a Christian song of sorts, with the Wishing Well being a metaphor for God. Of course, it's vague, but that's how I interpreted it the first time I heard it.

Not the entire song, necessarily, but Death's Bite the Pain has one of the best lyrics about human nature ever:
"Beware of the sharp-edged weapon called human being."

Here's another from Riot, who has no shortage of songs reflecting Mark Reale's Christian faith:

Not a Christian band but this song is some good stoner rock / hard rock with some "Wrath of God" lyrics:

I like that. What's their story 'cause that song is pretty good lyrically and there's a bit of a BLS sound.

I don't know a lot about them except that they're a German band who started out as a hardcore band in the early '90s. They've put out eight albums so far so they're quite prolific. I just found out about them in the last day or so because someone on MeWe was passing them off as a Christian band. Some quick due diligence told me that wasn't the case, but the song was impressive enough lyrically and musically to include it here.

The song, "Prince of Darkness," is about the Devil, but it's certainly no tribute to him. In fact, it's message is essentially the same as the title track of the famous Stryper album:
"He may win the battle, but not win the war We will not give him places to dwell Soon Armageddon will come like the thunder The prince will be blasted to hell, hell, hell!"

That first Omen album was awesome. Just wish they didn't have songs like "Be My Wench." Some otherwise superb 80's metal albums were marred by overly sexual or anti-Christian songs.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. That traditional metal sound is generally more conducive to uplifting songs or dramatic songs about life's struggles anyways, in my opinion.Constantine wrote:That first Omen album was awesome. The final stanza is definitely a nice surprise in "Prince of Darkness" though, especially if you don't know it's coming.
