Re: Most 'Christian' song from a SECULAR metal or hard rock artist or band
I'll go with Warrior's "Fighting for the Earth". This is one of the greatest metal songs of it's time in my opinion and the lyrics are WAY more relevant now than they were in 1985.
Face to face, eye to eye
Weilding the axe, the mighty must die
Highest mountain, deepest sea
Eternally searching to destroy the beast
Cry of the jackal, is heard in the land
Immortal enemy, has come to challenge man
Secret science out of control
Conjured the serpent, up from below
We are fighting for the earth
We are fighting for the earth
Searching, searching, searching...
Blood and corruption, hideous crimes
Lying leaders, controlling our minds
Cloak and dagger, conspiracy of hate
Oh hear the cry before it's too late
We are fighting for the Earth
Face to face, eye to eye
Weilding the axe, the mighty must die
Highest mountain, deepest sea
Eternally searching to destroy the beast
Cry of the jackal, is heard in the land
Immortal enemy, has come to challenge man
Secret science out of control
Conjured the serpent, up from below
We are fighting for the earth
We are fighting for the earth
Searching, searching, searching...
Blood and corruption, hideous crimes
Lying leaders, controlling our minds
Cloak and dagger, conspiracy of hate
Oh hear the cry before it's too late
We are fighting for the Earth

I always saw this song as having a Christian message:

And then there's this one which (At least to me) sounds like someone struggling with sin:

^I read somewhere that most of Helloween's members were Christians. I haven't looked into their lyrics too much; has anyone researched them? I'm curious to learn more...

For what I know Michael Weikath and Michael Kiske are Christians. And that song is written by Weikath.Kerrick wrote:^I read somewhere that most of Helloween's members were Christians. I haven't looked into their lyrics too much; has anyone researched them? I'm curious to learn more...

As for Helloween, it's a bit of a mixed bag. That Laudate Dominum song is very good textually and some other songs make some vague allusions (Time and Salvation come to mind), but on the other hand there's a song like Church Breaks Down. The lyrics of that song are ridiculous in all kinds of ways, but still; it's written by Sacha Gerstner by the way, the younger member of the band and not a very good lyricist in general.

Thanks! I was hoping you'd see this thread since I knew you'd have some good insight. I glanced through those lyrics and a couple others on that album and they're pretty bad... Well thanks, you just saved me lots of money hahaha.

Hey wow, this is a great song. I haven't paid much attention to their later stuff because I think most of it sounds the same, but this is an exceptional track.Markus1987 wrote:What a great song. And thus this became my favourite from them11razorwire wrote:"Seven Seals" by Testament

Anytime my man. Actually I'd say that Straight Out of Hell is their worst by far lyrically. And it also happens to be the only Helloween album I ever paid full price for. Very bad vibes there!Kerrick wrote:Thanks! I was hoping you'd see this thread since I knew you'd have some good insight. The lyrics on their follow-up, My God-Given Right, are much better.Andreas89 wrote:Anytime my man. Actually I'd say that Straight Out of Hell is their worst by far lyrically. Well I could pick up most of their albums for really cheap, don't know if that's possible in the US and A though.
And I'd start with Gambling with the Devil, great lyrics on that one and musically it's my favourite of theirs. The Keeper albums are slightly overrated if you ask me. Power metal heresy, I know and I don't care.

Right on! I remember seeing their CDs for very cheap in stores back in the day, though haven't looked recently. I have a gift certificate to a local shop that has Gambling With The Devil available online so maybe I'll use it and pick that one up!

Lyrics:
One has seen the power and the glory
Whom shall save us from ourselves at last?
Prophets tell of latter years in mourning
Voices cry out warnings from the past
Disciples of the Dead Sea Scrolls are preaching
The soul of man lived from the dawn of time
With every passing day, mankind is reaching
For the gift of truth from the divine
Do we believe in the holy martyr?
What is the secret yet to be unveiled?
Offerings are made upon the altar
Hallowed be thy name, or has he failed?
Reverence is easy when you sing a gospel hymn
For the moment tranquil feelings do…
Here's several
Megadeth have a bunch, most notably on the *united abomination* album as well as *valley of deth* on the *the system has failed* record.
Alice Cooper has a bunch, most notably on *the last temptation of alice cooper* album, and on *brutal planet* and *dragontown*.
WASP have a bunch in their last few albums.
All three of the above leaders, Dave Mustaine, Blackie Lawless, and Alice Cooper are all born againer.
Here's one mant seem to forget
-*deliver me* by Meliah Rage on the *solitary solitude* album,.
-*peace on earth* by Lee Aaron, the metaaaal quueeeeen!

David Icke and christ vs the reptilians

Indeed. Though it might be pertinent to note that song is the last on the album, in a series of songs dealing with a theme, linked to the reptilian nwo conspiracy most notably put forth by the great David Icke, so it's not evangelical Christian in the sense most mainstream Christians would think of their religion, but its pro christ nonetheless(that one song).

Suicidal
Suicidal Tendencies have a number of pro-christ and pro-gun songs or lyrical passages . Mike Muir I believe is(or was, or is still i dunno)a Christian though not a churchy one

Here is one of the most criminally overlooked and underrated bands in history.
One of their songs fits the bill nicely for this thread:
