Another online Christian Music store is going out of business...
Another online Christian Music store is going out of business...shaverav.storenvy.com.
I used to buy stuff at the older online store version years ago the owner had and I forget what it was called. They have Extreme Metal marked down to $3 a CD. The 3 main US based online stores I usually inquire/shop at is
http://brentschristianrockmetal.com/
http://www.girdermusic.com/musicshop/
http://www.roxxproductions.com/
http://www.christianrockshop.com/ is another store but I find there is never nothing there I want.
I found out about the one going out of business where I was considering placing an order for a couple of CDs.

Re: Another online Christian Music store is going out of business...
I haven't bought from Shaver Audio & Video in a long time. I hate that they are closing, but I haven't found anything from them in a long time.
I won't order from Girder. I've had a couple of bad deals with them and just don't feel like going into that now.
I have used Christian Rock Shop. They even carry one of my CDs!
My favorite place is Amazon. So much turns up there that I don't really need a lot of other shops. I occasionally order from Roxx when they get something new I am interested in like the Recon remaster and the Eternal Ryte Anthology. I also use Boone's Overstock as that is the official store of Retroactive Records (Matt Hunt).

Metalhelm.com is a great US store.
There are other sellers on storenvy.com you can just go to the main site and search what you are looking for.
Nordicmission.net is a great store overseas.
Discogs.com is an excellent private seller community. I've found many rare releases there.
I think there used to be a list somewhere of all the online stores we could find that sold Christian metal. I'm not sure what happened to it. Check the sticky topics it might be there.

Shaver announced going out of business a while ago... It's been a long time since I've ordered from them too just due to selection. That being said, that Dormant CD is extremely rare and very good (if you like atmospheric black metal). Once it's gone from Shaver... it's probably going to be extremely difficult to find!

When I talked to Shaver via e-mail last June, it kinda seemed like to me like he wasn't feeling the best. (he used the words "this funk I have been in")
Its a shame to see his shop go. He was one of the better experiences I've had with online stores as an artist/supplier of music.

Lots of good distro sites mentioned here. No one has mentioned Sanctus Gladius yet, so I will.
Ulterium Records is good too but shipping is expensive to the US and now Christian Metal Distro carries their stuff.
There used to be a "Where Can I Buy" sticky thread. Maybe we should start a new one?

Re: Another online Christian Music store is going out of business...
Soundmass is a very solid store. Very honest and communicative.
My opinion, and no one has to agree with it, is that the business practices are definitely geared toward the benefit of the store and the customer - not so much the artist that works with them...
My opinion, the absolute best stores out there (for customers AND artists) is Vision of God Records and No Sleep Till Megiddo Records.
They're both timely, fair, honest and a pleasure to work with.

Re: Another online Christian Music store is going out of business...
Thanks for the additional online ordering links. I have checked them out. I'm considering placing an order with Soundmass and I've heard of them years ago. The Austrailan dollar is a tad less than the Candian dollar. I have bought stuff from the far east before and the shipping don't take long to reach Canada. Has anyone from North America ever placed orders from them before?

I haven't ordered from Soundmass. If I have, I don't recall it. Most of the things I do buy, I can get cheaper in the States so I just order more locally.
For me:
Amazon
Boone's Overstock
CD Baby
Christian Rock Shop
Direct from band when possible

I picked up 2 CDs from Shaver's "Going out of Business" sale.
He told me he'd like to regroup and start another store again in the future, but I think he wanted to spend more time with his kids and focus on other life stuff for the time being.

I can certainly relate.

I'm planning on placing an order for a few CDs at Soundmass. They have a good selection and the Australian dollar is few cents less than the Canadian dollar and their prices are decent and similar to American places like Roxx and Girder. I loose 30% whenever I order from the US. Sound mass will save me some $$$$. I may contact the owner on shipping time to North America.

Re: Another online Christian Music store is going out of business...
This is a great thread. I have been looking into this exact question while promoting the album SEVERITY by my band THE WORLD WILL BURN. It is getting harder and harder for most people to find the music the want. What is everyone's platform for finding and buying music? Amazon has been the best for us so far. We have been at the top or near the top on their hot new alternative music charts for over 2 months. This is surprising because it is not a christian outlet, and we are competing against all of the big secular bands.
Our own website has sold a lot, especially for people who want a signed CD. We are selling through CDbaby a little. All the rest are scattered sales from a dozen or so sites.
We worked out a distribution deal with Retroactive Records. Matt Hunt has been fabulous. He sells on ebay as Boone's Overstock and then distributes to many international stores. They have an amazing inventory, too.
We want to get our album into the hands of people that want it, but our shotgun approach may not be the best way to do it. I am curious what you guys do and where you think the industry is headed.

My first choice would be brick-and-mortar stores (Christian or mainstream) whenever possible. It's almost never possible anymore. Then it depends on what I'm looking for. I trust Christian Metal Distro and some other distro sites named in this thread. For older/used stuff I use Amazon or E-bay. I usually don't buy direct from the band because it's too much work and have had bad luck with that in the past. The "one stop shop" thing of distro sites is preferable for me.

I prefer brick and mortar stores too, but there isnt one within a reasonable distance from me that carries anything I listen to. It seems amazon is the most popular these days. It also seems that most of the online christian music stores sell on Amazon as well, but I would rather get it directly from the store so they dont have to pay Amazon.

...too bad Amazon wants you to pay $39.99 a month to sell there.
