Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
I completely overlooked this album back in the day, didn't like the change in direction musically but have been listening to this many times recently. WOW!!! This album smokes, I don't know if my tastes have changed but I'm finally really enjoying this album. My favourite song from the album is the title track.

Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
While moody and even contains rap style vocals, it is a solid listen. That's what I liked about this era of Deliverance. The music was heavy but evoked different emotional response. To me, their speed metal days just sound angry and nothing else. That worked when I was young, but I prefer a bit more emotion. I would be more excited about new Deliverance material if it were in the "Stay Of Execution" through "Camelot" styles.
Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
I didn't mind some of the changes, I love Stay and Learn has some good stuff but this one never grabbed me much. Belltown and River Disturbance are the only songs I really enjoy.

Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
The only tracks I care about is River Disturbance and Beltown, as well. But I only listen to this album a couple of times as this is my least favorite Deliverance album. Even Assimilation is better.

If not for the programmed drums, "Assimilation" would have been amazing.

I'd love to hear Assimilation rerecorded.

Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
I'd just love to hear the drums redone and released as is. I liked all the electronic noise with it as percussion fills. It worked.
Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
Didn't like this one as much when it first came out but as the years have worn on, it's become one of my favorites. Love the reissue with the extra track on it and the better cover artwork.

How anyone can be unmoved by U Still Smile is beyond me. That song is so packed with emotion, it has had me on the verge of tears before...

"Assimilation" is all live drums... those aren't programmed...
However, the demos were all programmed... But the actual album is Jim Calvert on drums on a live drum kit...
Funny thing, I did ask him to play like a drum machine... LOL...

Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
I still really like Assimilation, Jimmy...I know you once said you didn't think it turned out as well as planned, but I
think it's great...
Regarding River Disturbance - I love some of the tracks on this - Belltown, After I fell, River Disturbance, Now and Then, and Speed of Light...
I'm a fan of the speed metal and more progressive, groove side etc... and being a big electronica fan love the Fearful Symmetry stuff..... It's why I also follow Klayton from Celldweller quite a bit - His new Circle of Dust album Machines of our Disgrace is fantastic, so is his retro synth project - Scandroid.

Artie... Thank you Bro...
Free Range... Thanks for the props on Assimilation... I wish it would've been done differently, but oh well... :-)
I love Klayton as well... CoD is really incredible!!!
and to My Awesome Timothy... Thanks for starting this thread with that thought... Means more than you can know... I have always considered River to be my Magnum Opus... I truly love that album, all but "A Little Sleep"... That was a favor to my buds in 12th Tribe... They had been dropped from their label and wanted some needed attention by doing a collaberotive effort... But its a song out of place, for me at least...

Had to pull this out again just to see if my opinion has changed. I will add Speed of Light to songs I enjoy and somehow You Still Smile reminds me of Queensryche this time around so that's four songs i'm liking and of course the Steve Taylor cover makes me smile.

I never knew that. It sounds so much like a machine that I've always believed it to be. There are little drum fills and rolls. That usually was a good indication on any album that a machine had been used back in those days.
Cool to know!
Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
River Disturbance is my fave D album by far. I love the thrash D of the early days (and soon to be recent days), but River is what I consider Deliverance. The title song is perfect to these ears.

Not personally my fav, but some great song, especially River Disturbance. The best guitar solo I've ever heard.

Jimmy doesn't even give us the common courtesy of using an avatar. C'mon, at least use a Fearful Symmetry album cover.

It's good, but I like others from that era better (Learn, Stay...).

Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
River Disturbance is really good, but a little inconsistent. I honestly don’t think D has a bad album, though. Weapons and Stay are the best.
Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
People bag on A Little Sleep, and I understand why, but Map is my skip track on the album.
Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
Those are the two worst, the music is fine on them both but they are just wierd tracks. Not skip for me though.Pethead wrote:People bag on A Little Sleep, and I understand why, but Map is my skip track on the album.

I love the track Little Sleep but 12th Tribe was my jam back in the day. Has a RunDMC Anthrax colab vibe

I don’t mind that one and I actually like TQT’s Spineless.
The one where the rap nearly ruins the song is Whitecross’ Holy War, because the lyrics are so bad.

Re: Deliverance ~ River Disturbance
As a kid of the 80's and 90's when the Rap/Metal colabs started I've always liked them. Never a big rap fan overall but something about it gets me. Partially why I like P86 to.

I was into rapcore when it was popular. I’ll still toss on some early Pillar and jam.
