I can't really get into drum machine "bands". Maybe I am just biased though.

Interesting find, never heard of them. Not quite my cup of tea, but they got a good review from Angry Metal Guy, which is not easy to do for a band with any hint of faith leanings.

They just released a new track but I can't find lyrics to it:

Went and listened to some of their stuff, lots of Cynic influence. They're good, a little inconsistent but overall I like it.

Interesting that it has three ex-Cynic members guesting on it as well as Ole Borud from Extol. Curious about lyrics since it is on a secular label. I'll look into it a bit more.Black Rider wrote:New album out.

I'm getting more annoyed by this as well. There's quite a few bands (even Megadeth sounds like this sometimes) where I know it's a human drummer playing really difficult and awesome beats, but it's been so processed it sounds like someone could have just programmed them. I've been enjoying albums where--if you pay close attention--you can hear some of the imperfections of the drum recording process.

I did enjoy my spin of this album! I'd have to hear it a few more times to give it a thoughtful review, though.

Similarly, I like it when I can hear the sound of the guitarist sliding his fingers on the strings, especially in black metal, which I think should always have a very organic and human sound to it.Sevenoneself wrote:I'm getting more annoyed by this as well. Re: LAMENTATIONS ~ Progressive Death Metal
Just to be clear, the current incarnation of this band has a live drummer. The prior material was a two man band with one mastermind. Now it is a fourpiece. In fact, three of the four members are from the band Monotheist. That said it is pristinely produced in the classic tech, prog metal mold, falling into the trap mentioned above.
I listened through the whole album today. The songs have a lot of variety within them but as the album wore on they blended together. The musicianship, the melodic vocals, the acoustic interludes we're all amazing. The death metal vocals were mediocre, generally nondescript like on the debut. They didn't give a lot of character to the songs. The melodic portions I'd guess will set tracks apart more on repeated listens.
