Thrash Metal
One of my all time favorite genres! I've been into this genre since discovering Deliverance and Vengeance Rising as a kid! I soon thereafter discovered Metallica and Slayer - and then it was history. I was hooked. Exodus, Defiance, Forbidden, Sacred Reich, Flotsam and Jetsam - you get the point!
Who here loves Thrash Metal? Who are your favorite Thrash Metal bands?
Let's let er riiippp as we discuss this chainsaw bearing genre!!!

Re: Thrash Metal
My top 10 would be:
1. old school Metallica.
I don't care how badly they changed after their 4rth album, Metallica released 4!!! 4 complete masterpieces in the Thrash Metal realm. Not many bands can say they have 4 masterpieces!!! All time favorite Thrash Metal ... and will probably always will be for me!!!
2. Exodus
3. Overkill
4. Testament
To ME personally, those are the REAL Big Four.
then ...
----------------------------------------------------
5. Anthrax
6. Slayer
7. Deliverance
8. Sepultura
9. Flotsam and Jetsam
10. Kreator
------------------------------
honorable mentions to:
Ultimatum
Sodom
Forbidden
Seventh Angel
Sacrament
Vengeance Rising

Re: Thrash Metal
I like some Death Angel songs and enjoy "Act III" but I think they're way overrated. I think Dark Angel for example blow them out of the water.
Re: Thrash Metal
I guess I don't get out enough. I always felt like Dark Angel was underrated too. But, I never thought them to be comparable despite similar names. I think I'll have to queue up Darkness Descends next.Temple of Blood wrote:I like some Death Angel songs and enjoy "Act III" but I think they're way overrated. DA may have been overrated in those days, but the Ultra-Violence album certainly isn't.

Re: Thrash Metal
I never was too big of a fan of either Death Angel or Dark Angel. I never did own any albums though ... so perhaps I need to track down some of each of their music ... and get back to this thread about it. Both two bands I never really had too much exposure to.
I heard a few Death Angel songs on the radio (they used to have a killer Metal station here) and liked them.
However, I saw Dark Angel perform live - opening up for Testament on their "Practice What You Preach" tour. And they were 'terrible'. And that's not an understatement.
However, my friends all told me that Dark Angel RULES, but that they had a 'bad night' during that concert. The lead singer downed a whole 5th of whiskey before the show started is why. He was sooo drunk he couldn't barely sing straight and he kept falling down on stage. I was embarrassed for him.
So that was my first impression of Dark Angel. I will buy an album from them ... and see what I think. I've never heard them in studio.
Death Angel I just never happened to buy, even though I wanted to. Just never happened.

Re: Thrash Metal
Love love love me some thrash!! This genre of metal forever removed my attraction for glam. For me, it was the bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Exodus, Overkill, Metal Church, Sepultura, Forbidden, Testament, and Sacred Reich. Just as important were Deliverance, Tourniquet, Believer, Martyr/Betrayal, and Vengeance Rising. Some of the more modern bands I like would be Disaffection, Arnion, Hating Evil, FreaKings, and Opprobrium. I also like 4ARM, Trivium, and what is my most anticipated release of 2016...Meshiaak. Check it out, if you haven't already heard them.

Hey, D@v!d. Can we call Caracao de Heroi a thrash band? If so, they're definitely on my list.

...loved them...plus they were one of the first thrash bands to start bringing the " funk " into metal. They took some cues from the RHCPs I think.

Two different ends of the spectrum of Thrash. But Dark Angel were very good at what they did as well.

Re: Thrash Metal
Top Bay Area debuts....for me.
1) Kill 'em All
2) Bonded by Blood
3) Forbidden Evil
4) The Legacy
5) The Ultra-Violence
6) Breaking the Silence
7) Mordred - Fools game
The Seven Churches
But Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood are probably my all time, top of the list, of Thrash in general.

Sure, different styles. I'm trying to think of a band that you might be able to compare to them ... Anthrax, Sacred Reich, Intruder, Hades ... I'd prefer all those bands over Death Angel.

Well, I was just talk'n debuts. But yeah, Eyes is a strong record. Less raw and more in the vain of traditional bay area thrash.

I used to have the Beyond the Gates album. The front slip opened in half like gates revealing a hell landscape. Creepy.Temple of Blood wrote:sentient 6 wrote:

I kinda like that but have a hard time getting past the production.
