Re: Getting Drunk/High On God??
I skipped through a few parts of the video but didnt watch the whole thing. I have seen people get "drunk in the spirit", but this almost seems satyrical to that. I dont think you need to include the action of pretending to smoke a lego in order to experience God's presence
Re: Getting Drunk/High On God??
So many comments...all rehashes of the critiques I've posted on Pentecostalism and WoF.

The defense of nonsense like this is the same of that of those who defend demons attaching themselves to certain items, goes something like this; "this is what I've experienced!" Experiences are notoriously deceptive, and not the best teacher...

Re: Getting Drunk/High On God??
This is real, not because it is biblical or even spiritual, but because it is just another tactic used by the enemy to confuse people so the won't see the Truth.

This is an interestign area.
I grew up in a church that was cessationist - they believe that the gifts of the Spirit no longer operate. But that only included tongues and prophecies - and didn't include leadership, wisdom, discernment, etc.
Then when my wife and I married we ended up in a church that taught the gifts, as well as being "slain in the Spirit" and "laughing in the Spirit".
We now attend a church that believes in tongues and prophecies, as we believe the gifts still exist (we are continuationists) but we don't think it should be a circus sideshow like this.

As for CM's comment, my Wesleyan inclinations tell me that experience is important, but as a means of confirming Scripture, not as a replacement for it.

Sure, but experiences can be deceiving, just because you had a certain experience, real as it may have been, doesn't make it true or good...

Re: Getting Drunk/High On God??
I thought I remember seeing that Brian Head Welch was into one of these guys that preach about getting high on God.
I went to a Charismatic church that got into the whole "laughing in the spirit" and such. It's just a distraction, nothing redeeming.

and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
Its funny. Many in the Pentecostal movements seem to neglect the " gift " of disernment while highlighting things ( laughing, barking, nonsensical " tongues " ) that are not even true Spiritual gifts.

Re: Getting Drunk/High On God??
This quote is found at time mark 19:21...
Question from reporter:
Why do you think there's been so much conflict, and sort of divide, when you're all sort of preaching a similar thing?
Response from "christian" crackhead:
Competition...Greed...Wanting to be the leader...
Umm...You know a lot of those things...Alot of it's money...
Uhh...You know like...
Question from reporter:
What do you mean "it's money"?
Response from "christian" crackhead:
Well, it's like, you know, if you are the leader of a movement, then everyone is loyal to you to support you financially as their "head priest" or whatever...And so everyone kinda wants to be the leader because everyone is then like...you know..."Well, he's the one we support to increase this movement."
We have big plans. We want to open up, you know, a TV studio. We'll have a mansion. Uhhh...Like...I'm just gonna be ballin'. I want an underground heated garage with, you know, a Bentley and a Rolls-Royce, and a Maserati and a Ferrari, and a Lamborghini.
I mean like...there's just no limits to the prosperity.
Hmmmm....Very revealing

I agree that most of those folks ignore discenrment... but I disagree with calling tongues nonsense. I know this (like many other things in the church) has been abused or misused but if the other gifts are still active, so is this one.

It's odd that they don't see prosperity as God saving a soul from perdition.
Prosperity only means $$$$$$$$ to them.
