What are "greatest hits" bands for you?
Basically, what are bands where you like the hits (maybe even owning their greatest hits album) but have no interest in picking up any of the band or artist's actual studio albums? For me that would be Steve Miller. I have his greatest hits album and enjoy it very much, but i dont have any interest in getting any of his actual albums (from what ive heard, the hits are the most memorable tracks from those albums anyway).

Probably Aerosmith. The greatest hits albums rule but I have little to no interest collecting that long line of CDs where most of the songs don't really do anything for me.

Simon and Garfunkel maybe...I dunno, there's probably a lot of one-hit wonders I could mention like Del Shannon or Europe.

Third Day. I own the first two albums. The rest of their catalog is just the stuff on radio to me.

Elton John. I own his first two greatest hits albums (on vinyl even!) but i have no interest in any of his studio stuff (or any of his post-70s stuff to be honest).

Re: What are "greatest hits" bands for you?
I've never really thought about this, but I think if I did there would be quite a few. Mostly artists that I'm "supposed" to like because everyone says they are so great. There was also the time when it seemed like the typical album would be 3-4 good songs max and the rest was filler. POD is still a lot like that, IMO. It seems like they have a couple really good rockers, a fist pumping anthem, and then a whole lot of shtako on each album. When I listen to them, I listen to their greatest hits albums.
I would agree with Steve Miller, Aerosmith, Journey, The Who, and maybe Queen. I might even add Chicago to that list. I've found a couple overlooked gems on their studio albums that don't make the 73 greatest hits albums their labels have released, but in general their best songs are their hits.
Then there are groups like Stryper whose hits are among the songs I like least.

Yep, excellent Greatest Hits package, not so great albums. Same with Fleetwood Mac. Greatest Hits package is fine with me. And Steve Miller Band.
