Mad Magazine
So here's the scoop.
When I was an unsaved teen, I collected Mad like, well.. a madman. When I accepted Christ (as the Christian lingo goes) at 19, I destroyed all things secular. My porn, slasher flicks and posters, secular music, magazine collections, etc.
In recent years as I've grown in the Lord, I've come to realize I destroyed a lot of stuff that was harmless. ie some secular music is neutral and is no big deal to enjoy as a Believer. Some comic books are harmless fun... which led me to reading an old Mad a couple years ago. I realized there was nothing in this particular issue that was anti-God or pro-Sin... and I laughed my head off, remembering these old cartoons.
So I decided to begin ebaying Mad magazine issues from the 50s to the 80s (I don't like the 90s/2000s issues -they're pathetic). I gathered quite a collection again of issues from these years and recently read through them all. Granted, there were 2 or 3 issues I tossed since they were offensive to me as a Christian, the majority of them are rather silly humor that are not bad. I also have quite a bit of Mad paperbacks as well.
Anyone else grow up with Mad ?

Re: Mad Magazine
I did!
I loved that magazine up until the late 90's or so (when it started going downhill in my opinion) and had a huge collection. I collected from about 1991 to 1998 (including Super Specials) and hardly ever missed an issue. I also had a lot of issues from the 70's and 80's that I would find here & there at yard sales or used book stores. I have many fond memories of that magazine. Been wanting to see how they are now but the last time I picked one up, it was so full of ads and politically correct (MAD??) humor that I set it back down pretty quick.

Agreed ! I got my first issue when I was 7 (back in '77) and read it through the 70s and 80s. Like you, I picked up a more recent issue and was horribly disappointed. The original spark the old artists and writers had is gone.
Good stuff from the old days. "What, me worry ?"

Re: Mad Magazine
Hello Mr Alfred E Newman, all grown up I see.
FYI, there is a Mad TV show on Cartoon Network
http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/mad/index.html
I tuned in and out about as fast as a current issue of that once beloved mag that takes up space on the news stand.
I much prefer the 1974 TV special which was aired during the time I used to look at mags.

Re: Mad Magazine
Ha ! yes, the game was hilarious... me and my best friend (also a Mad magazine collector when we were like 10,11,12,13 years old) played that game all the time.
No idea what ever happened to mine...

Re: Mad Magazine
I still have my Mad Board game and Mad Card Game! My kids love it!
I still have all of my old Mad Mag's. I kept them pristine and never even folded the Mad Fold In's! My favorite issue is the one with The Incredible Hulk
