My New Christian Thrash Song!
Here's a demo for a song I recently wrote. Sorry for the crappy quality. I'll go through and re-record everything when I have the time.

(I have absolutely no idea why the link is that long)

Can you send the song to us in a different way? I can't access it b/c Google is somehow making me open a new gmail account.

Re: My New Christian Thrash Song!
Yeah, that link doesn't work.
I assume you have uploaded that on Google Drive and then simply copied and pasted the link that shows to you when you open it.
Here's what you need to do:
Locate the file on your Google Drive.
Right click on the file.
Choose Share and then choose Share again.
See the section "General access" and open the drop menu under that.
Choose "Anyone with the link"
Then click the "Share link" button below.
Paste that link here.
That should do it.

Yes, works now!
Trim the song quite a bit and you'll get a nice 3-4 minute tune from it. Change up the drum patterns a little bit more too as it gets a bit monotone when it's 8 minutes pretty much the same thing.
Other than that, you got me interested instantly with the first riff, and the Hangar 18 inspired riff caught me even more. 8 minutes of those is too much but in a tight shorter package it will work for sure! You could easily start the solo section already after maybe two minutes of the song and after the solo you could close the song with one more round of the opening riff and the hangar 18 stuff, and maybe add some intense elements towards the end.
Of course you do what you want, it's your art and entertainment, so you can double the length to 16 minutes if you want
But I thought it has a lot of really good potential for a shorter song. I was actually pleasantly surprised how catchy some of it was for me.

Re: My New Christian Thrash Song!
I use GarageBand so I can't get the drums much better. I'm going to have a real drummer before I release anything. The song is actually trimmed already. I just sat down and said "I'm going to write a song". Didn't have any kind of plans. The original version was 9:52 seconds. I do have some ideas on how to trim it. Also, with vocals it'll sound less repetitive.Airola wrote:Christian Thrash Rules wrote:I edited my first post. Is it working now?Sevenoneself wrote:Can you send the song to us in a different way? It’s like a power metal riff on loop.
You and Cressler need to collaborate and create something like Woodpecker from Mars!
Does GarageBand have slap-bass sampling?

Re: My New Christian Thrash Song!
That main riff kinda reminds me of Slayer's "Black Magic".
You'll learn a lot more about song structuring and dynamics as you go along.
Interesting start, though!

It does not. But I have a guitar pedal that can make my guitar an octave lower. I used that on a few of my other songs, I didn't get to it here though.TZ75 wrote:It’s like a power metal riff on loop.

I shortened it to 6:40. I don't know how much shorter I can make it, I want to make sure I can fit a decent amount of lyrics (so that the message doesn't feel fast and squished if that makes sense). Again, sorry for the quality (audio, drums, etc.). I will re-record and add bass when I get a chance.

Re: My New Christian Thrash Song!
Sounds good! Ditto what others said. It's a cool riff and a few other parts that just repeat. I'm sure vocals and real drummer will distract from the repetition, but I think it needs more riffs or to be shortened still further.
That said, if the vocals are really strong and there's a vocal hook that I love enough to hear for 6 mins, I may not get bored of the repetitive riffing.

I feel like several songs that don't seem repetitive to us would seem so if the vocals were removed.

Re: My New Christian Thrash Song!
I was blown away with your rhythm guitar work! Much better speed picking than I have. Nice work, it's obvious you've spent alot of time on this.
Also, the riffs you wrote are great. Keep them!
It's worth it to listen to the feedback that people have been giving, Steven. Some of them have played in bands and all have been listening to metal music alot longer than you've even been alive. They are a wealth of great info. I'm in my early 40's and when I joined the CMR last year I realized that my knowledge of metal music is about 10% of many of these guys. I've learned so much!
What you'll find is that when you start writing lyrics the song will change. Even though you have a much clearer picture in your mind of what the song is going to sound like than we do, when you actually write some verses and a chorus, you'll end up realizing you need more riffs here, less riffs there. You might end up thinking, "Uh, I need to write a different riff to connect these two parts".
You've got some killer riffs written here, and you've got the chops to play them. We're all looking forward to you posting the next version of the song in XX months from now with the vocals and some more arranging!

Re: My New Christian Thrash Song!
Thanks! Yeah, I really want to get vocals, I don't have anyone to sing them. I'm also not the greatest lyric writer yet lol. That and soloing are the skills I need to work on the most right now.Sevenoneself wrote:I was blown away with your rhythm guitar work! Much better speed picking than I have. Re: My New Christian Thrash Song!
^ It can be super frustrating when you can't find people to play with. My son (gr. 9) is super into metal drumming, but there isn't really anyone around to play in a band with him. I'm hoping to do some more with him.
One thing that I've done to help with this is play the genre of music that people around me are playing. I've done some bluegrass and country gospel b/c there are people around my area that play them. And before you protest, just read about and listen to John 5's stuff; he has tons of different styles of music in his music!
I wish I could go back to high school and take vocal lessons. My mom had even offered to pay for them, but I was too arrogant to accept. At your age you can do all sorts of stuff. Buy the first part of Ken Tamplin's vocal course and work on it. Or join a forum of lyric writers. Start writing lyrics for one song evert day (alot of writers do this) and they'll start sounding better and better. At your age you have the whole world ahead of you, tons of time compared to us old farts with careers and mortgages and kids, and your brain learns faster as well!!
