Is it the vocals? When I bought STB, in 1990, during the buy-everyting-if-it's-Christian phase. I abhored it...because of the vocals. The vocals were all I could hear...
Over time I came to love the record and, though they still wouldn't be my first pick, even the vocals.
To this day it is easily in my top 10 all-time, probably top 5...
Also, it's very interesting because we generally have very similar tastes...

Yeah 100% the vocals. If I could turn them into instrumental albums I would and listen non stop.crucifyd wrote:mothy wrote:LOL especially with Tourniquet Ive really tried, even re bought Stop the Bleeding and Psycho Surgery and cant get more then 1 song in.

All Vengeance Rising
Crucified: Pillars of humanity
Seventh angel: Lament from the weary
Detritus: Perpetual defiance
Believer: Sanity Obscure (bar the stupid U2 song) and Dimensions
Sacrament: Haunts of violence
Tourniquet: Pathogenic ocular dissonance and Psycho
Mortification S/T if you consider it to be a thrash album
In bands, I always look for a unique quality and sound they might bring to the table of a certain genre, therefore Deliverance's first couple of thrash albums were really good, but aside from the vocals they didn't really have a sound of their own until later- same with Living Sacrifice's debut, good but if I want to listen to Slayer, I'll do just that.

Mortification - s/t
I used to love Seventh Angel’s Lament for the Weary (I still do musically) but the vocals seem a bit whimper-ish to me nowadays. I think Ian Arkley knew he needed to go heavier. I like the last album they did. Maybe if he did a hybrid like Chuck Billy does, it could’ve been better.
I also love Testimony of Apocalypse, especially the vocals. But the production is muddy and not as tightly played as Haunts of Violence.

Ted should do that!
He has already released a instrumental version of Antiseptic Bloodbath. He could go back and remove the vocals from all albums for a limited run of “special edition” instrumental albums.

Re: Top 10 Thrash Albums (Christian)
The animal rights stuff only bothers me with the song Antiseptic Bloodbath (I still like the album). I'm not counting Onward to Freedom since it's a bit of a different animal (pun intended). But the first two really only have Ark of Suffering and Stereotaxic Atrocities, so I don't find it overwhelming.mothy wrote:I tried again, took the dog out on a 1 hour walk and listened to Stop the Bleeding and Psycho Surgery. Between the animal rights messages of some songs and the King Diamond like delivery of the falsetto like vocals I deleted them from my phone storage. Ill sign off the board for good now in shame
I will admit PS was much better from a vocal standpoint but still didnt grab me like it seems to have with all of you guys.
Have you tried Where Moth and Rust Destroy or Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm? I know most prefer Guy's vocals to Luke's, but I actually prefer Luke's. The albums after the first three also have a bit of a different style, so it might grab you more. I'd suggest starting with Where Moth and Rust Destroy if you haven't heard it.

7. Believer -- Extraction from Mortality

If you only want to count 1 album per band and bounce Human Sacrifice, then slide Hating Evil -- Rotten Inside into the "new" 10 slot.
