My mom has told me before that I don't have my own accent in my songs because I'm trying to sound too much like Jimmy... consciously, I'm not trying to, but she is correct.Dustofyears wrote:Heck give him some time, he's only 15. I can hear with a couple more years and some dedication he'll get there. What I will say though, I get you like Metallica a whole bunch, but if you can try and find your own voice. The solo sounds like a Kirk Wammett clone. Try find your own tone and voice on the instrument. And also, your influences are going to change as you go along, so combine them and find your voice in that... it takes time, and time is on your side right now.
I'd say my main influences are Deliverance, Metallica, Tourniquet, System of a Down, Skillet, Red, and Megadeth, with some Believer too, though I try to add my own flavor without being just a mix of all those bands (and for anyone scared by seeing Skillet on there, they're mainly what started by obsession with symphonic rock/metal, hence why I list them).
When you say “your own accent”, where are you from?

Re: New Christian Thrash!
I've got a basic American accent, the type you hear from everyone in California... But when I sing I get a tendency to adopt Jimmy's accent to an extentTZ75 wrote:StevenCressler wrote:For me, I've always been a bit too influenced by Deliverance... especially my vocals (I know you can't hear that much on the single I posted, but if you go to the slower songs on the album, you can tell). Ritual Servant announced on FB that they've got album #3 in process! I think it's still early yet, but something to look forward to nonetheless!

Oh sweet summer's child... you thought I meant his actual voice lolz. What I mean when I say find your own voice, is to try and find his own style and own unique tone, rather than sound like a Kirk Whammett clone. And that takes time with any one learning an instrument (or in fact, any craft). Most don't find it and end up becoming a sound alike. They'll copy their heroes and try play like them, but few ever tap into their own voice. SOme people have it naturally, other's have to find it. Tony Iommi, Brain May, Angus young, Slash, Ty Tabor and many more, have their own voice and style of playing. You know them when you them. Yes you can hear their influences, but they bring themselves to the table from that. That's what it means to find your voice in music. It takes a lot of listening to lots of music, and not just metal, then nurturing that into something that is your own.

Lol... I actually did know what you meant, it just so happened that my actual voice is the biggest place where I'm copying too much
Re: New Christian Thrash!
YES! The first album was meh, but Albus Mendacium was AMAZING. If they keep up the quality and skill of AM they could enter in to the Christian Big Four pretty soon.Kerrick wrote:Ritual Servant announced on FB that they've got album #3 in process! ^ Lolz...
Haven't seen that movie in years. If I remember correctly, the creepy old villain looking guy the movie sets up to appear as evil turns out to be the good guy simply warning them. Could be wrong though it's been a minute.
That's is a classic trope in horror movies, usually it's a creepy looking gardener acting all creepy, turns out they were just trying to warn the new tenets of the house in their own special creepy way that the place is haunted.
First one's a classic of course, and the theme song by Jerry Goldsmith: Carol Anne's theme, I used to play that as a kid on cassette and sleep to it.

I like Albus Mendacium better overall, but “Seven Trumpets” is still my favorite of their riffs.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:YES! The first album was meh, but Albus Mendacium was AMAZING.
