Big Four of Traditional Metal
I am bored and in need of mental stimulation.
Maybe mental evaluation as well.
Anyway..................
Who would join Stryper in a Christian traditional/classic metal big four?
Mine might be...
Stryper
Bloodgood
Saint
Barren Cross
Although I'm very tempted to cheat and expand it to five so I can add Sacred Warrior.
There are lots of good bands to choose from!

Especially their more recent material.
Most trad/classic Christian metal bands back then had the glam thing going on at some point. Take a look at their pics from the 80s.
Anyone who disagrees is a very wrong individual.

Stryper and Whitecross, not so much, though in many ways, quite so... even Bride is debatable, but not wholly off the table...yes...I am bored!

I almost added Bride (they're a personal fav of mine), but they deviated too far off the trad metal path.

He had Bride listed, then took them off.
Not fair.
Not fair at all.

People are too hung up on the glam look...
Is Shout at the Devil not a metal album because the Motley guys were in drag? Was Twisted Sister not metal?

I know… but I like Rob Rock better!
Holy Hell is one of the best Christian metal albums!

The first Bride album is definitely metal!
But then they went more bluesy with a Guns N Roses influence.

I would say the first 3 Bride are well within the metal sphere.
Starting with Kinetic Faith, they went for that whole GNR/Aerosmith/Zeppelin vibe. They were great at that too.
Actually, think what one may of their stylistic "experimentation", Bride excelled at whatever genre they went through.
That said, I'm glad they finally found their way back to playing stuff influenced by their earlier albums.

I thought Snakes in the Playground was the GNR style album. But I’ll trust your comments (you’re the bigger Bride fan).

I agree, which for me would be Saint and possibly Barren Cross. All the others could go under different sub genres, but I'm not one to call people out on which band belongs where. It's all subjective.Black Rider wrote:When people say traditional metal I think more the NWOBHM influence, otherwise any older band is included.

Yeah I forgot about Bloodgood, I always lumped Sacred Warrior in the power metal camp but I can see that. I don't recall ever listening to Neon Cross.Black Rider wrote:Sacred Warrior and Bloodgood fit pretty well, as does the first Neon Cross.
