Re: Spotify Wrapped
Rexoria was a new discovery for me and they’re now one of my favorites. I bought their latest and will pick up their other two when I can.
LOVEBITES was also new to me and I bought their latest.
Obviously I own all of Petra’s stuff, but a lot of it is on my iPod which doesn’t hold much of a charge anymore. So sometimes I listen on Spotify. It’s a similar reason why Megadeth is listed.
I’ve done a deeper dive into Exodus this year and picked up some of their albums that I didn’t have before.

As expected though Waiting on a Friend by the Stones is funny, Spotify puts that on playlists for me but it's a good song.

There must be a mistake. Delain is missing from your list.

i cannot figure out how to resize it better.....
Songs #1 and #3 are from a Haydn string quartet.
Song #2 is Cut From The Stars from the new Yes album.
Song #4 is Touched By The Sun by Carly Simon
Song #5 is from Yes "Talk" album.
I knew Yes, ZZ Top, Petty and Trower would come out on top this year but was not sure about anything else.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
Nice. Wish they’d get the other Barren Cross albums on there for those who haven’t heard them. State of Control in particular is epic.

Amen. State of Control used to be on there years ago but it got pulled. There has only been "Atomic Arena" and "Hotter Than Hell" and the title track from "Rock For The King" on Spotify for the past 4 years at least.Pethead wrote:Nice. Been waiting for more Barren Cross and other bands to appear (like Neon Cross) since then. Spotify did just get 2 X-Sinner albums so you never know when things will appear or when they get pulled....
I've heard that it is up to the band or whoever holds the rights to decide what gets on Spotify and what stays off.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
I don't use Spotify as they pay the artist so little.
Starting the first of the year, if you aren't getting big streaming numbers, you won't get paid at all. All the money being paid out will go to big labels and the indie guys will no longer get anything at all.
You need to pull the plug from this horrible company and just buy the music to actually support artists. All the indie bands and smaller bands need to pull their music and get out of Spotify come Jan. 1.

I have a love/hate relationship with Spotify. I do buy the music. I check it out on Spotify or elsewhere and then I buy what I like. I can’t afford to blind buy very much anymore.
But you’re right about the upcoming changes. Goodness, that’s despicable.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
Actually I researched this new Spotify situation. Indie artists will eventually get paid after they reach 1,000 streams of a song. That is the new minimum. If that never happens, then yes, they will not get paid.
I agree it is still despicable and wrote about it on other sites. But I believe Spotify is still useful for giving the public a chance to be exposed to the music of an independent artist. I would never have heard of Letter 7, for example, or other lesser-known bands were it not for Spotify. At that point if you become a fan, you can support the artist outside of the streaming platforms.

I'm at a point where I can hardly afford to buy music. It stinks and I feel for the artists but it's food or music.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
As I mentioned above, I also use Spotify to listen to albums that I own but that are either 1. On my iPod which has trouble holding much of a charge and depends on an aux cord to listen in the car or; 2. I own on vinyl or; 3. I purchased a while ago and don’t know where it is; or 4. I purchased digitally and the files got erased.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
Do you know if Youtube Music is a better alternative to support artists? That sounds pretty terrible what Spotify is doing, but if not for free streaming services most of the music I love I would never have discovered at all. I do buy albums I really like though

Re: Spotify Wrapped
Youtube is Big Brother primarily concerned with censorship and thought control. They used to be about the little guy and built their system on independent creators, but that was many moons ago before Google bought it. Now they just push corporate garbage and big-time celebs serving faux political narratives and ESG scores.

Re: Spotify Wrapped
Some sources claim Apple Music pays more per stream. Some others say it’s not that simple. If I can get solid verification, I wouldn’t hesitate to switch, especially since I own more music on iTunes than is probably healthy.
Re: Spotify Wrapped
What's your favorite Christafari song? Haven't listened to them in years. I think my favorite was Soulfire though.
