I wasn’t much of a thrasher at age 3.
My kids will be a different story.
You just had to make us feel old… didn’t you? LOL
And on the other side of the coin, we have a few folks born in the 1960’s.

Early to mid 90s was the golden age of skateboarding
Early 90s the golden age of heavy metal and thrash
Mid 90s the golden age of hip hop
Then you had Nirvana with Nevermind and RATM with their s/t single handedly inventing new genres
In electronica, the whole jungle / drum and bass movement was revolutionary as well
so much groundbreaking stuff was happening, and almost all at the same time...
But to answer the question: TQT StB and Deliverance WooW certainly take the cake in Christian Metal. I haven't listened to any of the secular records in the poll (I was strictly Christian music at that time) but later certainly enjoyed Suicidal, Lights Camera Revolution, with You Can't Bring Me Down one of my all time favorite metal tunes.
Suicidal Tendencies!
I was (and still am) a huge fan. But mostly the crossover thrash albums. Lights Camera Revolution is my favorite. But their ‘83 debut is a classic, and one of the greatest punk albums.
I was born at that perfect moment in time where I was at the crossroads of a few different genres.
The tail end of the glam metal fad 1988-1990.
The thrash metal craze 1986-1991.
The beginning and classic era of Death Metal 1987-1992.
The beginning and death of Grunge 1991-1994. When I started high school, Nirvana hit it big with Nevermind. Cobain died the same year I graduated (1994).
I could also add the whole Nu-metal scene, but I was not much into that. Although I’m a bit more open minded today. But mainly stuff like Mudvayne (and I’m not sure they belong in that genre).

I wasn’t alive in the 90’s, but I’ve always had a largely negative view of that period with regard to music. Primarily because it’s the time when grunge and alt-rock (both of which I despise) came out and started infecting mainstream rock and even metal. But there was certainly some good music that came from that period too, mainly from the bands that didn’t sell out to the new “trendy” sound

Death Angel - Act III is my vote. I've always felt that Death Angel was underrated.
Dead Horse - Peaceful Death and Pretty Flowers comes in a close second.

Now you got me started...TZ75 wrote:Add “industrial metal” to my list above.

Think about skatepunk: started with Bad Religion, then NOFX but Green Day and The Offspring hit the lotto
What about Brit pop: Oasis were bigger than life in Europe, Blur, The Verve etc. followed
Alternative Rock with REM, Radiohead, even Sonic Youth was on MTV
I am not going to talk about Euro Dance / Techno on theses forums but that was a thing too.
And sorry for highjacking this thread.

Re: Best 1990 thrash album
Honestly for me the 90’s was the golden age for extreme metal. All the bands were (mostly) just getting started and they were making leaps and bounds in fleshing out the genre and creating their own sounds. A lot of the new bands all just sound the same to me. I would agree that grunge and alt-rock are horrendous though lol.seth wrote:I wasn’t alive in the 90’s, but I’ve always had a largely negative view of that period with regard to music. I think Guy is a great singer, but it's less he has a great voice and more he's great at using his voice.Pethead wrote:I must confess that, while I like Guy and I LOVE TQT, I’ve never been head over heels for Guy’s voice. He’s good to be sure, but I’d take Joey Belladonna, Coburn Pharr, Chuck Billy, Blitz Ellsworth, Jimmy P. Brown II, Luke Easter, and Russ Anderson over him, to name a few.

I agree, I just mean that imo the voice itself isn't really what sets him above most other vocalistsTZ75 wrote:I think Guy has a great voice and also the way he uses it.

Did you know that they started off as a glam metal band?Pethead wrote:Another confession: I've never been big on Pantera. I like some of their stuff and I love Dime's playing, but their music hasn't ever grabbed me like it has other people. I haven't really delved into their pre-CfH stuff, though.

Lots of great choices for 1990…
But it’s hard to beat these two!
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss

Re: Best 1990 thrash album
So crazy StB and WooW came out the same year. WooW sounded like traditional thrash and was at the tail end of that classic late eighties thrash era. StB sounded so novel and was the avant garde. Two great classics, the 90s started out so dope, and it was only a glimpse of what was to come, the golden age of hip hop, drum n bass/jungle, grunge, and nu metal were all about to hit us in a short and frantic cadence.TZ75 wrote:My favorite Christian thrash albums from 1990.
