Pethead's correct. If I ever left the forum, it would be specifically b/c of Pethead's irrational and immoral anger towards this song. I hope Matt Smith shows up on the forum and cuts Pethead off at the knees.

Folks around here don't have an axe to grind against you (yet).  Those things take time.  You and I could say the same things and folks would respond differently.

Well, apart from the lyrics i might end up with a Helloween song... "Eagle fly free" maybe or "Keeper of the Seven Keys".

Quick question about RotAM. You're saying that depending on your mood you consider this 11min+ song as your favourite all time secular metal song (instrumentally)? Even with the quite section in the middle and the extended length? Can you comment a bit on that?

I'm not saying you're wrong. It's just that I would have crossed RotAM off of my list based on these factors. After all, we're looking for all-time favourite, not just a good or great song. So I'm just trying to understand and expand my horizons. 

Well, I'm a sucker for epics, for one!  And while the middle section on its own isn't anything to speak of, in the context of the whole song it makes for a much more epic experience.  The song takes the listener on a journey and when it's over, I feel refreshed like sitting on top of a high mountain after a big hike which brought me there, if that makes sense?

RoftAM is great, but I like Powerslave even more. 

Some of their best epics are on AMoLaD.

It makes sense, Kerrick. I introduced my 12yr old son to Neal Morse's Lifeline and Dream Theater's Octavarium yesterday and both those songs, but especially, Octavarium build to a great epic ending. I finished listening to the other songs on your list and most of them tend towards that 10 minute mark or more, and they played well for me.

AMoLaD is indeed a very strong record.

A standout among those first 4 "Return of Bruce" albums for me.
Unfortunately ignored in the recent live setlist, as was BoS surprisingly.

But they have SO many tracks that HAVE to be played that it's impossible to rep every album.

However we got 3 Senjutsu tracks right off the top, so that was amazing.

That's my favorite song of his.  So good!

If I were to pick a song it would be likely be a Stryper or Saint song. 

Stryper: Soldiers Under Command, Yahweh, The Valley, Blood From Above, Make Love Great Again, Transgressor or See No Evil. 

Saint: Steel Killer or On the Street.

If I can lean more towards the hard rock side of the spectrum for this thread, then I might change my answer to Van Halen’s 5150 (the song).

But today….my favorite metal song is Impellitteri’s Rat Race. Tomorrow it’ll probably be something from Stryper or Saint or Theocracy or Tourniquet or Barnabas…etc….

From Rob I was also thinking of The Hour of Dawn and Millennial Reign, but there’s just something with Conqueror’s Hymn, it really rocks!

^ The Hour of Dawn is another great song from Rob Rock….I was also thinking of ”First Winds of The End of Time” as an all time favorite.

The Spirit Carries on. Amen. One of the best songs ever. The only reason I hadn't included in this thread is because it shines as a part of the whole album. Divorced from the context it loses some its appeal.
