So sound off! Who here likes this song and who here doesn’t???
(I’m trusting Kerrick to do the right thing by enforcing the consequences for selecting the third option).

I can't believe you're intentionally being so divisive!

I'm listening to it again right now, and am blown away (do you like all my over-the-top descriptors in this post that show how serious I'm being??) by how awesome it is. The progressive/instrumental section in the middle is brilliant.
I'll admit that the lyrics are cheesy in some places: "creation is music and music is creation". But there are TONS of cheesy lyrics out there in songs that I enjoy and think are awesome. That's not enough to denigrate this song into a pariah.

You want divisive, let's argue over how to pronounce "divisive."Sevenoneself wrote:Pethead wrote:My antipathy for this song is well-known. (Although I do really like the lyrical idea). I love this band overall.

True dat. For proof, I could name several other Theocracy songs (Absolution Day, anyone??)Fundy wrote:Love the song. It tells a brilliant story about someone who isn't very good at speaking to others, but when he turns the words in to music, then it comes alive. As it's a faith based song, it's even more powerful, for we all know what real deep christian songs can do to the soul.
Epic stuff.

I voted. Y'all can guess my vote...
(The epic guitar solo in the latter portion of the song is pretty rad and helps redeem it, but overall it's still a bit too "Disney" sounding to me, as Pethead aptly described.)
And who voted for option #3??? Seek repentance right now or you'll get perma-banned!

If I were to start a similar poll, it would be about Mirror of Souls (the song). I find it absolutely boring, boring, boring.
However, this is a very controversial opinion as well. Matt Smith has stated in at least one interview that it is the song he is most proud of, as far as songwriting goes. And it is one of my eldest son's favourite Theocracy songs. He and my aforementioned daughter have all the lyrics memorized.

Just a general thought. I am, of course, not speaking of corporate worship times.

Lyrically it doesn't resonate with me because I'm not a musician. It's like his musical autobiography and I respect that.
Mirror of Souls drags a little in the middle. I Am is my all time favorite song.

That's not to say I hate it, but for me it just seems to plod along kind of directionless until the solo section.
It probably doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of the power metal genre. I like Theocracy and certainly have my favorites on each album. But in all honesty I'm just as likely to skip this track.

IMO the worst Theocracy song that made it to an album is Call to Arms. Also don’t see how Gift of Music can be worse than Around the World and Back, which is about the same syrup (granted more pop rock than Andrew Lloyd Webber) but none of the metal of Gift of Music. Another song people dog which I love is Sinner off the debut, great song.

Call to Arms is fantastic. What a monster hook. And Around the World and Back is far less cheesy in its presentation and lyrics.Friday13th wrote:CrimsonWarrior wrote:Definitely the worst Theocracy song. I normally skip it and I otherwise really enjoy As the World Bleeds.
