MORGARTEN - New Single & Video (Swiss Viking / Folk Metal)
Brand new single from Morgarten (Switzerland)!
Very cool video for the song "To Victory" which is from the new Morgarten album "Cry of the Lost," their 1st in 6 years.
The album will be released on CD, limited vinyl and digital on June 18th via Inner Wound Recordings.

Sounds great and the video is well done and quite fun!
I'm guessing this is like Slechtvalk and their use of storytelling and allegories to express their faith?

Yes this band tend to use a lot of allegory. Their previous album from 2015 was all about that. In that sense they tend to not super explicit about their faith, so people should proceed accordingly.
P.S. Actually if you look at the lyrics to this song which are printed on the YouTube video, this is probably the boldest they've ever been.

Yeah. Looking through the lyrics for the previous album it had a lot of pretty clear allusions to scripture. It spoke of glorifying the King, following his path, not fighting in our own strength but his, not fighting for our own pride or glory. Even though much is about fighting it was mentioned in one of the tracks that the battles were not physical as much as spiritual. Kind of a C.S. Lewis way of taking on concepts of faith through story.
Thanks for posting this. I guess I kind of ignored this in the past without looking much into. I'll definitely consider picking this new album up.

Guess again, this is not in the same league with Slechtvalk, sounds generic and well trodden.

Musically they are not the same, so comparing them to each other doesn't seem fair.wintersdawn wrote:

Also, Slechtvalk doesn't make cool videos like this one.
And much of Slechtvalk's music sounds the same to me after awhile.

I think you are responding to my comment in the wrong light. I was not comparing them musically to Slechtvalk nor was I comparing the depth of lyricism but merely to the two band's use of fictional stories and settings to portray to truthful principles.

Wow, I'm impressed that a relatively lesser known Christian Metal band put together such a nice video. I enjoyed the first album (somehow ended up with a copy signed by all the members). It's one of the few Viking/Folk albums in our scene. The symphonic elements in this song actually gave me a little mid-period Dimmu Borgir feel (which I like).

I just found this song on bandcamp, and I like it. If they utilize those baritone clean vocals in every song I might ending up buying this one.

You are right, i read some similarities, and also in terms of style
Re: MORGARTEN - New Single & Video (Swiss Viking / Folk Metal)
This is still one of the more interesting songs / videos I've encountered so far in 2021.

Thanks for sharing this!
Do people still want bands to release videos? I've toyed with making one, but it seems like a big pain and I wonder if it's worth it to bother. I'd rather just spent that time to write a new song TBH. I preferred Metallica before they had any videos.

Personally, I definitely enjoy a good video. Even just the band lip-syncing (like the recent Valor or OneMustFall videos) are interesting to me because then I get to see the band and what they look like. Most bands I will never get a chance to see live just because of distance, so these videos are the next best thing.Temple of Blood wrote:Do people still want bands to release videos?
Or a lyric video like the ones that Vision Of God Records tends to put out. Your band had a good one with "The Return."
Those are probably less expensive to make I would imagine, just labor intensive.
A concept video like this one is also a big treat, as they do not come around too often.
I don't expect those nearly as often but if they are well-done like this one or the recent Wytch Hazel videos, I find them fascinating to watch.

I pre-ordered this with the debut. Hoping it won't take too long after its release. The second single was outstanding.
