Barren Cross

The more I think about that name, the less it makes sense...

First album on the tune He Loves You, they use the phrase “barren cross” to indicate Jesus is no longer on the cross - He lives. It is meant in contrast to a Catholic crucifix, which puts the focus on Jesus’ death versus his resurrection.

I kinda thought that might be it. Thing is, Paul kinda put the focus on his death as well, "we preach Christ and him crucified.", "I claim to know nothing but Christ and him crucified", "always carrying in us the death of the Lord Jesus."

I could go on, of course his death means little apart from his resurrection, but the CC certainly proclaims that as well. As an Evangelical I used to get freaked out by the crucifix as too; "they still have Jesus on the cross!" That's just silly, no one, including Catholics, believe he is still on the cross. Perhaps "Empty Tomb" would've been a better moniker, but I suppose that doesn't sound as cool...

I never understood the significance of "Whitecross" either.

As an aside, I would think the crucifix would be more of an offense to Muslims, since they don't believe Jesus was crucified.

That is probably less likely to happen now that Mike is the new vocalist for Worldview instead of Rey Parra.

On a side note, checking Metal Archives there are two Empty Tomb bands, both Christian ones, and 4 "Black Cross" bands, none of whom are Christian (Whitecross is nowhere to be seen on the site though).

Whiteheart was specifically named to be the opposite of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts who were big when Whiteheart was starting out. The idea is a cleansed heart, free from sin and darkness. I love their name.
