ZZ Top - Original Album Series (meaning Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres, Fandango!, Degüello and Eliminator)

It was late, but my Christmas came in, which was all cd's.  As is obvious I haven't bought much in a while, but this feels like a pretty good haul:

Oh man, you got some goooood stuff in that haul!  That Vardoger album has been one of my top-favorites since its release.  Both Cloth EPs are excellent too, as is the Dalit and Death Therapy ones.  And of course anything from My Silent Wake is good.  (Have you heard their newest one?  It's quite different but really amazing.)

It's going to take me a while to get through these, I basically only listen in my car.  The Vardoger is the first one I reached for though, I stinkin' LOVE Whitefrozen.  On a first listen I liked but didn't love it.  Reminds me more of the last Extol than anything like what I expected.

I haven't heard any My Silent Wake actually since A Garland of Tears, which I didn't love.  But I DID love Shadow of Sorrow and Anatomy of Melancholy, plus I've liked most of Ian's stuff since Seventh Angel days, so I figured it was well worth a shot.

Right on!  Yeah Ghost Notes is indeed very different than Whitefrozen for sure.  It took a little while to click with me too, particularly due to the female vocals but once it did... I just couldn't get enough of it!  I think if you're able to set aside any comparisons to Whitefrozen and enjoy it for what it is... you'll really dig it.

As for My Silent Wake, actually IV Et Lux Perpetua isn't one of my top-favorites (not that they have a bad album), but I think I'm in the minority and for most fans, it's very high on their lists.  It's got some great tracks on it though.
