Re: Random thoughts...
I agree, I was merely highlighting a different aspect. Simply put, lots of people changed their views on this subject because of their feelings for people struggling with these issues. And made the Bible a ventriloquist dummy in the process. And in my experience, lots of people still expect you to change your views in the face of the reality that these issues can have for particular persons. But now it appears that christians can both have compassion for their neighbours who are slightly different, AND disapprove of reacting on that urge. That's just too much nuance for lots of people.Verbum Lux wrote:[snipped for convenience]

Agreed. Both issues and people can be nuanced and complex, but people often don't want to see that. We want things nice and simple, which allows us react without giving them much thought. Honestly, I believe we're all guilty of this at times (I know I have been), and it's something that we need to guard against.

I know! It's really hard to maintain such an attitude when people keep treating you like a stereotype though. But doable.

Fall break? Man, we never got that when I was school. We hat a Thanksgiving break and Christmas break, but I've never even heard of "Fall Break" before. Is this common now?
Yes! We get a two week fall break, two weeks at Christmas, and a week during spring. As someone working within the school system, I LOVE the breaks. Working with other people's children is no walk in the park, and the staff needs a break more-so than the kids do!

At my current university I also get a fall break. It's nice, but I procrastinated too much.

Awesome Tom Petty art I found on Etsy. Wish I could paint like this. I'm tempted to buy it, but I don't think I can justify the expense right now.

It is difficult, and it's only going to get worse. But it is absolutely critical that we take the high ground on this and not stoop to responding in kind. Loving your enemies and speaking difficult truths in love are some of the biggest challenges we face if we follow Jesus. They are vital to our mission though.

Re: Random thoughts...
Been thinking about the fact that the Universe, according to CERN researchers, actually shouldn't exist.
https://futurism.com/cern-research-finds-the-universe-should-not-actually-exist/
Apparently, when the Universe came into existence, there should have been equal parts matter and anti-matter, which should have annihilated each other, leaving behind ..... nothing.
Now I'm not saying this necessarily provides evidence for the existence of a Divine Creator, although it certainly gives something to ponder in that regard. What it definitely does do is give me more reason to appreciate the awesome majesty and astonishing complexity of His creation.

First job application sent here in Germany. It's for a position at a music label (not my kind of music, but still...). Very excited! Even if it doesn't work.

Sounds interesting. What sort of job did you apply for?

Re: Random thoughts...
It would be for a position as legal assistant. I'm really interested in the copyright side of things in the music business, and this seemed like a great opportunity to start. I even put my master thesis on hold for this application, of course I'll finish it as soon as possible.
Oh, and the connection via public transport is great too.

Re: Random thoughts...
Nice Andreas! When do you expect to hear back?
Oh man, for some reason I had a series of just miserable and discouraging dreams last night. I would wake up, feel relieved that it was all just a dream, fall back asleep, and continue in the same dream. This happened a few times last night. I'm glad to be awake now though!

No idea when I hear back from them; sometimes you simply don't get a reply apparently. This is my first "real" job application by the way. In the world
That about your dream sucks. Sometimes it's really hard to shake those off. Don't read too much into it I'd say!

Re: Random thoughts...
Gotcha. Yeah these days it's pretty rare to hear back at all it seems... I have a friend who was shocked and extremely discouraged by that. He was used to the "good 'ol days" when companies weren't sorting through millions of resumes and actually notified you either way.
Thanks. I've stopped reading into my dreams some time ago. (I am a VERY vivid dreamer and have dreampt some pretty bizarre/outlandish stuff in my day haha.) These dreams were just sad, but thank heavens they're just dreams!

Re: Random thoughts...
Of all languages, German has a short(!) word that means "yes and no": "jein". It's a combination of "ja" (yes) and "nein" (no). Come to think of it, some of the longer words in German are actually relatively short, since explaining what they mean takes way more words.
