Trivium hate
Whats the deal? Out of all the metalcore bands out there, why does Trivium get all the heat? Honestly, I'm not a big "core" guy but, Trivium sounds like a metalcore bands who hold true to their heavy metal roots. I've only listened to Ember through Shogun and haven't caught up with In Waves or Vengeance yet but The Crusade and Shogun were instant classics IMO. Everyone seems to not recognize Triviums potebtial and instead kick them to the curb. What kind of sorcery is this?

Re: Trivium hate
From what I've heard they're like a thrash/metalcore combo, so what ends up happening is all the thrashers get in a hissy fit when a breakdown starts and the metalcore fans want more screams and what not. It's BECAUSE they're decent that neither camp likes them. I think they're okay and you're right, they are a metalcore band that keeps to their 80s metal roots. You're either a bro or a thrasher, so basically it's just the result of the unfortunate rift between metal fans.

No, cause you never heard them.
Nah, I sort of wish I could tolerate hardcore. Like my roommate loves Christian hardcore and I can't stand the stuff. It's like, COME ON?! I guess I just have a discerning palate.

Here are my favorite Trivium throughout the years.
My favorite album from them is Shogun which includes the last track. You can really hear how the band has evolved over the years. I haven't caught up with the last couple of albums they have put out because I did the whole "Christian Music Only" thing for a while which I'll probably never do again, lol.

I don't know why they would be criticized. I wouldn't mind seeing them dump the growling vocals (he's got a good voice), but the band shreds.

I always liked Trivium. Used to be friends with a guy from Florida who went to high school with some of those guys. Underrated band for sure.

Re: Trivium hate
Ok Trivium fans, I need your help. I was just listening to the advance tracks for the new album (releases Oct 2) and I noticed that it seems more melodic than what I have heard from them before. Is this a change in direction or have they always had this element in their music? I was kinda on the fence about them, but I like what I just heard. It might be time to buy a bunch of Trivium albums.

It's an entirely new direction. Matt is leaving the screams out on this album and is exclusively singing through the entire album. I think it's going to be cool as hell because Matt has a strong voice. The album is going to be a lot more melodic than anything previously released.

What album(s) would you suggest to start?

Re: Trivium hate
It honestly depends on your personal taste. Almost every Trivium album is different. There are 3 Metalcore albums, 1 Heavy Metal album, 1 Thrash album and 1 Metalcore Thrash breed.metaldude wrote:ParaNormaN wrote:It's an entirely new direction. Metalcore:
Ember To Inferno
Ascendancy - My personal favorite Metalcore era album.
In Waves
Thrash:
The Crusade - My 2nd favorite Trivium album. The guys changed their style and decided to show off how far their musicianship can take them instead of relying on screams and breakdowns. Matt Heafy got a lot of flack for this album because people thought his voice resembled James Hetfield too much. This album got them the title "Metallica cover band".
Heavy Metal:
Vengeance Falls - Not too much screaming. I haven't heard it all the way through yet but, I liked what I heard. The album is slower than the previous albums.
Thrash/Metalcore:
Shogun - My personal favorite Trivium album. The Crusade was the album where they tried to show off their skill but, the musicianship and songwriting was a lot better on this album. Travis is an insane drummer and I'm sad that he left the band. This is Trivium in their prime.

I just found out I get two of their albums (Vengeance Falls and In Waves) free with my Amazon Prime account. It looks like I'll try The Crusade first.

For my tastes, Shogun is their only "great" album. Free music is free music, however.......

The Crusade is great! It's one of my all-time favorite albums, even though I'm not much into Trivium.
I found this album when I bought a Metal Hammer magazine and got a sampler CD with it. I was hugely disappointed with that CD and thought I might never get into this modern metal style. However, there was one song off Trivium's The Crusade; Entrance of the Conflagration. I immediately fell in love with that song and decided that I must go and buy the full album as soon as I can.
I have this "rule" that if some album has even ONE song that straight away hits me extremely hard, I will buy the full album, no matter what the rest of the songs are. Luckily The Crusade ended up being very very good. It might have a couple of filler songs that I don't much care about, but it had tons of greatness even though there were few "metalcore" parts too.
Sadly, even though I had huge anticipation for their next album, I couldn't find much to enjoy from any of their later albums. I thought the riffs and the hooks weren't as good in Shogun whereas The Crusade had tons of stuff that immediately gave me goosebumps. So The Crusade still stands as the one and only Trivium album I truly enjoy.
Here's the song that immediately made me want to buy The Crusade:

Trivium is coming to San Francisco next week and I just got this package in the mail. The hoodie looks really cool and the album is pretty sweet. I can't wait to wear it to the show!

Saw Trivium in San Francisco tonight. Really great band live. The band are funny and really energetic on the stage. You guys should check them out if they're ever around your area! I would upload a video I took but since I stood right next to an app, the sound quality on those videos sound like a thousand demons fighting over a cheeseburger.
