Encouraging albums? Empty Encouraging albums?

Post by Pethead Sat Apr 06, 2024 8:08 pm

What are some Christian metal/rock albums that you’ve found particularly encouraging to you as you walk with Christ?

I mentioned this is another thread, but a big one for me is Angelica’s Walkin’ in Faith. (Actually, most of Angelica I find really encouraging).

The song, Restoring the Locust Years helped me after a rebellious time. Even wrote Ted to thank him which he actually responded to.

I agree with your Angelica choices.

A bunch of Phil Keaggy's albums, but especially:
- Play Thru Me
- All At Once
- True Believers
- Find Me In These Fields

Narnia - Ghost Town
Halo - s/t
Ken Tamplin - Soul Survivor
Ethereal Scourge - Judgement and Restoration

I’ll also add every single Petra album. 😎

A lot of WhiteHeart’s stuff has encouraged me.

When I was a new believer I got really into ska, so Five Iron Frenzy and The Supertones were huge blessings to me. (The less said about Reese from FIF’s more recent theological turns, the better).

I wish they'd record live drum tracks for this album and Remix it. The songs, lyrics and arrangements are worth it.

Omega Highway's 'Love' album is brilliant for that.

Looks like it's recently been uploaded to YouTube!

The second half of Saviour Machine’s Legend II has always encouraged me, especially the song The Bride of Christ. Moves me to tears every time.

Anything from Theocracy or Petra... except for Double Take, but we don't talk about that one. My top song is More Power To Ya', not even kind of hard.

Both Greg X. Volz and John Schlitt’s solo debuts are super encouraging. Especially see the following:

Greg:
Joyous Grave
All I Can Do
The River Is Rising
Hold on to the Fire (my favorite)

From John:
Don’t Look Back
Show Me the Way
Carry the Burden
Try Understanding His Heart
The Hard Way (my favorite)

Almost all Christian Liljigren's material but most specifically Audiovision "Focus." That album was a huge encouragement to me back when it came out.

In my old life one of my favorite bands was the German power metal band Rage. One of my favorite songs was Frozen Fire. In some ways it was symbolic of my life before Christ and made sense when God changed my life that what could have been was finally set free.

It is so weird to look at the lyrics of a song that you heard as kid on the radio but never lyrically paid attention to. Looked up the lyrics to that Cars song.  pale

Dokken and Axel Rudi Pell (w/ Rob Rock on vocals) have songs about underage girls also. Those would go in Least Encouraging Songs.

That’s a classic rock trope that should go die in a fire.

More than albums, I have songs that inspired and helped me many times.

Wolves at the Gate- No Tomorrow / Embracing Accusation, Silent Anthem.
Petra: Grave Robber, No Doubt, Just Reach Out.
Guardian: Never Say Goodbye

Just a few.

I find a lot of The Choir's stuff very encouraging. They are pretty poetic lyrically, but they sing about real life stuff and it's been helpful and nourishing to me.

Skillet.  With the exception of the first two songs on Rise, pretty much their whole discography is encouraging.

I also agree that most of the catalogs of Petra, White Heart and Theocracy fit the bill.
