For Today is the album after that. It's not like other metalcore. You should at least try it, especially the title trackPethead wrote:I think it was Immortal.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:What album did you have? The album Fight The Silence is kinda how you're describing DM minus the doomy moments.Pethead wrote:I have, even have one of their albums somewhere. Can’t stand them. Other than their lyrics there’s nothing about their stuff I find likable. The album I had was just yelling over monotonous breakdowns.
Good DM is not just aggression. It’s got riffs, hooks, grooves, speed, doomy moments, all sorts of elements. But the main thing is that I find good DM to have far better songwriting than the vast majority of metalcore.

Pethead wrote:I might well have heard it. I’ve known people who loved For Today. But I’ve heard a ton of metalcore over the years and I would’ve been the target audience—all but one of my friends in college who were into heavier music pretty much only liked metalcore. The vocalist for the band I was in was a metalcore nut. I played shows with metalcore bands—mostly local, although Bloodlined Calligraphy was more well-known in those days. But I never cared for the vast majority of the genre.

They’re kinda unique from what I’ve heard.seth wrote:I know I’ve said this before, but even as a core-hater there is one band with core influences I actually really like, A Secret Ending. I’ve seen it described as symphonic deathcore (the “symphonic” part just refers to synths though), but I’d say there’s some elements of thrash as well. Pretty simplistic musically compared to most everything else I listen to, but I find it really fun and energetic
There are other bands I like that have core elements, but they’re not straightforward core (e.g. Becoming the Archetype).

Just kidding. Omada. We were just a local band around St. Louis. No one would have heard of us.

What style were you? If you say Metalcore I'm going to be very confused.Pethead wrote:Metallica. Lars sent a cease and desist letter.TZ75 wrote:Pethead wrote:I might well have heard it. I listened to the first 3 tracks. It’s fine, and I probably prefer it over Immortal, but it still sounds like generic metalcore to me.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:For Today is the album after that. Metal, but the exact style depended on who wrote the song. The guitarist wrote more core-style; I wrote more thrash/death. Our vocalist had a lot of input and added more core elements.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:What style were you? If you say Metalcore I'm going to be very confused.Pethead wrote:Metallica. Re: Ranking Metal Sub-Genres.
My favorite Christian bands tend to be mostly '89-93 thrash, though, because Christian metal hasn't produced as many top tier bands in other metal genres.
As for metalcore, I agree that it sounds mostly monotonous other than a few bands. But I'm on quite a few boards and FB groups that can discuss metalcore bands with as much detail and opinion as we do here for older styles. So I think it's actually just a generational hearing thing. What you're into, you can hear the nuances of. What you aren't into, you can't.
