Rank the Rob Rock solo albums
The first one I got and still my favorite. So many great songs, and the title track is probably my favorite of his tunes. (Dude has great title tracks).
2. Holy Hell
Some career highlights, but I find EoE a tad more consistent.
3. Garden of Chaos
Solid stuff.
4. Rage of Creation
His least consistent IMHBAO, although some great tunes too (Judgment Day is a favorite).

Has his most aggressive stuff
Eyes
Rage
Garden
His solo stuff is great but I like other stuff he's on better.

The album he did with Warrior is awesome and I really like the one with Axel Rudi Pell.Pethead wrote:I like EoE and HH about as much as the other stuff he’s on, although my favorite album with him might be Answer to the Master.

Holy Hell - the combination of songwriting and guitar tone put this one at the top of my list. The rhythm guitar tone just slays! And CJ’s Grimmark’s solos are spectacular on this album, especially on the title track.
Garden of Chaos - this one felt a little bit over produced, but the songwriting was still very strong.
Rage of Creation - good songwriting, good performances, by everyone involved.
Eyes of Eternity - the songwriting on this one is very good, but the rhythm guitar tone is so fuzzy that it ruins the album for me. I can still enjoy a few songs from it, such as the title track and Rock the Earth, but I just don’t really get into the rest of the album.

TBH, Holy Hell is my absolute favorite and you could switch the other 3 and the Live In Atlanta album in any order on any given day.
Also, Fires of Babylon and his Impellitteri albums are among my favorites as well.

1. Garden of Chaos - love this album. I was really looking forward to where he was headed after this because Holy Hell was a best of an album. Rob was on a roll back then.
2. Holy Hell - a shockingly heavy sound was the star of the show here. Back when this came out I wasn't a Christian and this caught a lot of positive attention from the secular scene. People craving Primal Fear, Cage, etc were fired up about this since Priest was only just coming back.
3. Rage of Creation - I was a big Impellitteri fan already when this came out. I loved the diversity, the slightly darker sound than his Impellitteri stuff.
4. Eyes of Eternity - I thought this lost something. It seemed a little more sterile. This thread is going to require me to revisit this.
A couple side notes: love Impellitteri the most, no contest. Driver "Sons of Thunder" is on the level of GoC and HH from the list above. The second Driver album wasn't as good but that first was outstanding!

Holy Hell
Rob Rock probably has the highest average quality work/result of any vocalist ever.
He's like Denzel where he only chooses great projects and then his huge talent puts it over the top.

A great album! On par with Judas Priest.
2. Garden of Chaos
A mixed bag. Overall pretty solid.
3. Rage of Creation
A very good first effort.
4. Eyes of Eternity
I never got into this one…

Agreed. As much as I like RoC and GoC, to me it’s beyond question that EoE and HH are at the top.Black Rider wrote:I'm surprised that people don't like Eyes, it's a great album.

Overall, Holy Hell ranks the best with mostly 1st and 2nd votes.
Rage of Creation is all 3rd and 4th place votes.
The other two each have at least one vote in all ranks.
I guess this is a testimony to how good he is and how "best" and "worst" are only comparative to other excellent albums.

As Eatbugs mentioned, it's pretty telling that there aren't definitive "good" or "bad" albums by him. I'd rank 'em as this:
1. Eyes Of Eternity. A solid album all the way through, though it gets the #1 spot for me due to Conqueror's Hymn which is easily my favorite RR song. The guitar tone doesn't bother me.
2. Holy Hell. I see why it's a fan-favorite and it's probably his "best" album and a very close second for me.
3. Rage Of Creation. A few of my favorite RR songs are on here. This is probably the most melodic album which I dig too.
4. Garden Of Chaos. It's a good album, but there aren't any standout tracks to me and a couple fillers.

Follower of Jesus wrote:Eyes is ruined (for me) by the sound of the rhythm guitar. I don’t know if that’s other people’s hangup or not, but it’s the main reason why that item is not higher on my list. As I said above, I think the songwriting on it is very strong. I can only imagine how good it would’ve sounded with the Holy Hell guitar tone.
I say this with a light tone and good natured:
I think being a professional musician has greatly diminished your ability to enjoy music.
I admit to being a genre-snob (I hate country, jazz, rap, etc... ) but you strike me as a tone-snob (for lack of a better description).
Eyes of Eternity is incredible and I agree Conquerer's Hymn might be the best RR song in an incredibly large and amazing catalog.

Metal Breed SLAPS though! I agree there is a bit of filler but man there are some incredible moments on this album.Kerrick wrote:4. Garden Of Chaos. It's a good album, but there aren't any standout tracks to me and a couple fillers.
