I sometimes get funny looks from people when I say I don’t like modern P&W. But I don’t, with a few exceptions.

I think God is glorified by us striving to make good music with good lyrics. Call me crazy.

Coldplay is awful!

Now that is my idea of dentist music. At least U2 had some upbeat guitar on the early albums. Coldplay is a complete snooze fest!

Even the Dave Matthews Band is more interesting.

I also don’t like Blues Traveler.

That constant harmonica soloing is very irritating!

I find a lot The Edge guitar influence on Saviour Machine's first album. I don't think that album would sound the same without U2.

I once read an article that said Max Cavalera likes U2.

They have influenced many people and heavy rock bands.

I remember this cover from POD…

And also the current Sepultura.

Yeah I have to agree modern P&W/Christian radio pop is the ultimate form of elevator/dentist music. The Coldplay comparison is quite accurate

It’s especially bad that many churches exclusively sing such songs in worship time. Not only are they painfully dull and often lyrically shallow, but they aren’t suited for congregational singing, so church services end up basically being a concert

New Years Day is probably the U2 song I dislike the least, but I still find it rather uninteresting

I also find it hard to take a band seriously who calls their guitar player “The Edge,” sounds like something a 12 year old would come up with to sound cool. Especially when they’re one of the least “edgy” bands in existence

Easy to say when you weren't there when they started.  They were edgy at first and were highly copied, they were even accused of stirring up trouble with songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday. And Edge's style was fairly unique for the time.

Hate to admit it but yeah when u2 first came out Seth they were edgy in the best sense they made a lot of heads turn. You can hear their influence In goth music and they would've actually made a great goth band. Also King's x were heavily inspired from them when they just hit the scene, even though I don't hear U2 in their first or second album at all. Ok I'm done talking 'bout U2!

Back to a much better band: BELIEVER!!!

It could be that the pastors have not much to say and they use the music as filler. The pastors are lazy.

Speaking of King’s X and their being influenced by U2…

I think one of their first band names that they tried out was “The Edge”.

So yeah, U2 was a big influence on them (in more ways than one). Not only was the New Wave music style popular back in the early 80’s, the spiritual lyrical references was appealing.

I would join, but I'll have to pick a different name.

Turns out that my pick, "The Table", has already been taken.

The Police was another band that had a simple approach (but lots of melody).

I guess they would be lumped in as a dentist band too.

The Eagles show that it’s possible to be mellow but not boring. U2 and the Police should take notes

I know this is a different mellow genre, but "The World Can Wait" by Over the Rhine is a great mellow song.
