Their rhythm section is good, but the vocalist has a grating voice like a child throwing a tantrum. And Tom is a uber-nitwit that doesn’t have an ounce of humility. He probably believes he deserves to be in the same conversation as EVH and RR.

had to sit through one of his entitled mega rich man virtual signal woke "We-are-connected-and-all-in-this-together-and-our-music-is-the-source-of-oness" speeches during the concert, as if the music wasn't boring enough. Normies lap that !@#$ up like they woz on oprah or sumffun.Constantine wrote:I saw an interview with Bono at a Willow Creek church conference years ago. Bill Hybels asked him some challenging questions about the Bible, his faith, and the Gospel, and Bono had no answers to any of it. He tried to fudge or joke his way through it. I lost some respect for him that day.
I like some of their music (especially the early stuff) but as for their supposed status of being some "guiding light of spirituality" in pop.culture, nuh uh. Very Woke too.

Rage (the real one) is criminally underrated. Brilliant band.
I haven't heard the last few albums from them, but I don't think they've ever made a bad one.
I even liked the Lingua Mortis Orchestra release from 2013 and consider it an actual Rage album.

System Of A Down is great.
One of my favorites from the "nu-metal" era.

And while they can certainly be questionable lyrically, their lyrics are also rather interesting.seth wrote:Yeah SOAD is the best nu-metal band musically, hands down. Their song BYOB almost reminds me of something Tourniquet would have written if they played that style
Side note: I love how branch-y the threads on here are. Their just like my conversations with my mom. This thread is for ranking Believer albums, but it turned into U2 bashing/defending, then turned into a convo about RATM and SOAD.

Also, how is it you haven't heard RATM... not that it's a big deal just thought that everyone has heard RATM, especially if your into heavy music. Figure you must listen to christian music only..but even then you must've heard Killing in the name of or bulls on parade or something...no?
And believer still writes great music even if they aren't Christians anymore. once I would've picked dimensions for my #1 but they are all number one for me (gotta add the topic in there it's like magic)

The only U2 song I know is the Believer cover which I love. I never listened to actual U2 because U2 is Coldplay tier cringey boring mall elevator music only Abercrombie wearing middle of the road mainline dudes could enjoy.
I guess I am on team Dustoftheyears on this one.

Re: Rank the Believer Albums!
Nowadays I blame them for the genre of worship music which stole their sound from Joshua Tree (and Coldplay who stole that sound and dulled it down for the masses before the churches did) and churned out 10,000 bland songs that I've been forced to hear and challenged to "sing to the Lord." Aside from the rare worship song I like (not love), lyrically and musically they all make me more glad I listen to metal.
The progression... 1. "U2 are Christians or "were Christians in 1982." 2. Christians like U2 and U2 is musically safe and culturally accepted. 3. Let's make Christian songs in the vein of U2 for the church, strip all the cultural commentary and challenging meaning from the lyrics and instead make them all sound like love songs with Jesus inserted, repeat the chorus 85 times, and make the songs 8 minutes long.

There’s no point trying to make sense of it… some people just don’t like a good melody.

Agreed. My wife didn’t believe me that modern P&W borrowed their sound from U2 and watered it down. So one day I put on The Joshua Tree. She believed me then.Frozen Fire wrote:I don't really want to contribute to the U2 thing but I can't resist. Lolz oh yeah! I was going to bring that up but decided not to as it would be seen as a dig if I said it probably. But yep, I went to a church that played like U2 worship type songs so that's another reason, everything you say here is bang on. Man I hate u2. THink I might hate cold play more though if that's possible. Least u2 influenced a bunch of bands that turned out better then them0Frozen Fire wrote:I don't really want to contribute to the U2 thing but I can't resist.
