Re: Random thoughts...
My physics 1 lab TA, a Ph.D student, is sort of winging it and it's really obvious. He didn't explain how to get a third decimal on the vernier caliper real well, so my group made it up. He couldn't explain how to do partial derivatives, "This is math! I'm physics! I can't explain this stuff!", which made a student volunteer to show how to do it. On the plus side, he's told us he'll be grading leniently on the lab reports relating to partial derivatives(not that they're hard at all) and he's a pretty relaxed guy, very cool.

Ah dang, that's a major drag dude; I am sorry. I've got a buddy with Crohn's. He's found that his diet greatly affects him though and by eating "right," he's able to feel so much better than before.
On a completely unrelated note, I apologize to anyone who saw the [pornographic] images posted earlier this afternoon by a bot. I deleted them right away and banned the IP addresses, email, and user. Re: Random thoughts...
It sucks getting old doesnt it? A few years ago I went to the doctor for the first time in well...a very long time. Not only was I diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and low vitamin D, but I was straight up told that I was on the verge of a heart attack. I got my cholesterol under control but for the last year and a half or so I've been slacking on eating healthy.
For me choosing to eat healthy has always been a real challenge, probably because I've spent the great majority of my life eating whatever I want whenever I want.
I try to eat granola for breakfast and choose salmon when available, but it gets expensive so more often than not I end up eating the wrong things.
It wasnt long ago I had the realization that I need to make a better effort at eating heart healthy so I can be around for our son, even with that on my mind I still find it difficult

That is better than having an actual heart attack.... My dad this past September had a "cardiac event" as the doctors kept saying (don't think anyone actually called it a heart attack ) and had two stents put in his heart. He is doing great now.

Re: Random thoughts...
My wife just found out in March she has Crohn's as well. She was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 16 years ago, and she got REALLY sick in February. She initially thought it was a bad reaction to antibiotics, but when she got in with the GI doctor, he diagnosed it as Crohn's and put her on prednisone and Humira. Much fun for her. On the upside, she is feeling much better.*static* wrote:So the good news is it wasn't just stress that was making me sick so I might be able to go back to work soon. The bad news is I have Crohn's disease. Womp womp.

Re: Random thoughts...
Well, just remember, there is always someone out there who has it worse than you. I'll be praying.
One reason you should never take physics over the summer:
Given the condensed nature of the course, 15 weeks down to 6 weeks, we have to learn stuff at an accelerated pace. No problem if you're willing to dedicate a few hours outside class everyday to study, however a problem arises when you are doing labs based on concepts you haven't even studied yet. For instance, we did a lab on elasticity and inelasticity. One sticks and the other doesn't. We knew even less than we normally do during labs as we were trying to learn this as we went along. The TA said he is going to give us a lesson next week.
Also, I have to say, our TA is pretty freaking great. He is hilarious. He told one student who was almost done once class started "Whoa, dude, you're almost finished. You should TA. I'll give you half the salary as long as you do all the work."
Also, he told my group yesterday "You're the front group(We're in the front), so I'm going to use your guy's stuff as an example. You're my favorite, I love you guys." Then we were the second ones finished and he said "You guys weren't done first. You're no longer my favorite."

Re: Random thoughts...
Man, I don't know. This fall is not going to be as I originally intended. I can't continue on at my university due to poor grades. This is due, in large part, to my anxiety, an obnoxious roommate and my studying habits could've been better. The day I found out I got angry, I got mad, and sad then fell on my knees and prayed to God saying "I'm sorry I failed you." I got a pretty comforting feeling, so it seems, for better or worse, I have to go to a community college before continuing. Well, maybe this is where God wants me? I don't know. But, at least here, I'll be able to refine my knowledge of math and programming, I guess.
On the plus side, I prayed to God for a place to live in the fall. I posted on my church's facebook group and a guy got in contact with me. Turns out, we were in the same chemistry class in a community college in a town two hours away two years ago. My brother was roommates with him the following semester. And the place we were going to stay out, fell through. Then it turns out, I'll be living somewhere else with two other guys(It's gonna be a disciple house for the church), in addition, and when I talked to one of them(He's a physics major) last night about it, he was like "Of all the people who I could be roommates with, I wanted you." I was like "This is awesome, we can talk about eigenvalues and quantum physics." And he started jumping up "YES! YES!" The two roommates I'll be moving in with, I once overheard having an argument about how physics will work in heaven. The physics major was saying it doesn't make sense how heaven would work with them, then the other, a mechanical engineer, said that they wouldn't apply to heaven and I heard one of them say something about getting their feelings hurt.
So, it looks like, as bad as I felt initially for the fall, I'm starting to feel a bit better.

Re: Random thoughts...
So I am the oncall tech again this week at work (which basically means no sleep for a week) and apparently last night Microsoft pushed some security update for Exchange Server 2013 and 7 of our various clients blew up because the update also disabled ALL of the services associated with MS Exchange as well as IIS. So this week will probably be spent cleaning up after Microsoft's mess and putting out fires. Fun fun times

There was a turf war between Karam and Kerrick over who would be the better moderator. Tempers were flaring as an all out war broke out between the South K's(Karam from South America) and the North K's(Kerrick from North America).XenonLion wrote:I haven't been here in a while. There was name callings, hurt feelings and everything. It was intense. Then someone might have died and everyone realized this was pointless, so it stopped and we all listened to Theocracy and it was merry and all.
