Favorite Bible verse - your "Life Verse"
I know it's hard to narrow it down, but...
Mine is Galatians 2:20
Mine is Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:31
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

I think part of the reason I latched onto this verse a few years ago is because of the chorus of this song:New Creation wrote:Hardcore Christian wrote:Romans 8:31

Well if I'm being honest my life verse is this:Kerrick wrote:I'll slap anyone who posts Jeremiah 29:11.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD

I've raised my children on that one.
My personal favorite would be 1 Peter 4:8
And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Context context context! Cherry-picking Bible verses is very dangerous! (Hahahaha I'm always tempted to quote out of context Jeremiah 29:18 instead... ) Jeremiah 29 is written to a specific people at a specific time. It even lays it out in the first verse:
Jeremiah 29:1 wrote:This is the text of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the other people Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Sure, it does give us some insight towards God and His relationship with His people... but also keep in mind that His "plan" was to send a Savior through the Israelite bloodline to redeem all of humanity. That "hope" and "future" is Christ - not a pleasant life or big home or sexy spouse... This verse is NOT just a blanket statement written to all believing Christians [Christianity didn't even exist at that time...] but instead to communicate God's promise to rescue the Israelites from bondage.
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox... But before I do................
- Hehe:
I'm sorry if I offended anyone... This is the holy Word of God and I don't mean to make light of that. And I don't know your use or understanding of that verse - nor do I claim to be a scholarly expert either. But I do believe that this verse in particular gets used way too often completely out of context. In addition to making Christians look like we worship some genie-god and fools when our lives don't turn out perfectly, the far more serious danger is the warped theology and complete misunderstanding of our God, ourselves, and our relation to Him that can stem from stuff like this.

Kerrick, you don't offend me, you're my bro. I do think, however, we could have a interesting discussion about this and this thread probably isn't the place for it.

In all seriousness though, I do consider this to be my "life" verse.
While I understand that the verse itself has a different biblical context than what I'm using it for, I still take inspiration from that verse, as a personal quote.
While at that level I'm sure it (and other verses like it) could easily be abused ie: robbing the local gas station because "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" LOL, but there is a positive/uplifting practical application with using that quote as well.
When I first got diagnosed with cancer, my grandmother bought me this high end "robot candle" - looks like a real flame, but it takes batteries - and there's an ornate inscription of the Philippians 4:13 on it. More than a time or two when I was feeling sorry for myself, I'd look at that candle on my fireplace mantle and those words helped inspire me not to give up...

The beauty of God's word...
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

I've always lived by 1 Corinthians 10:31

Re: Favorite Bible verse - your "Life Verse"
I latched on to mine as a new believer back in 1989 when I did my first Bible read through. Today it seems a bit cliché in that it's on calendars and bumper stickers, but it still means a lot to me especially with all I've had to go through in recent years.
Romans 8:28

Re: Favorite Bible verse - your "Life Verse"
I'm only at Proverbs in my Bible reading plan (a "year plan" I started at the beginning of 2014...), so I don't want to favor one verse over another, especially since I haven't read them all yet.
There is one verse however that kind of marked my beginning of being a born again christian. Not very original, so to make it more interesting I'll write it down in the old Dutch translation I was brought up with
